Later that day I heard a quiet murmur that was soft and delicate voice like a beautiful song bird.
"Um...um please, can I just see him for a second?" A quiet and meek voice asked, I gently smiled that foolish girl. She could've gotten a servant but she had to come personally and alone, even in this particularly cold weather.
"I'm sorry-" The Imperial guard began to reply before I opened the door.
"Oh, um I just want to apolo-" She began, before I gestured her to come in.
"But Sir...?!" The other guard began to plead.
"I will uphold all responsibility." I cut him off while I lead Consort Wan inside.
"Please excuse me, if my service is insufficient, as a result of my restriction there is no maids or eunuchs." I said as I guided her to the gazebo while getting some fruits and sweets while pouring her a cup of warm tea.
"Wow the scenery is beautiful here!" She exclaimed softly, dazzled by the beautiful picture created by the flowers.
"Yes, it must be cold have some tea to warm yourself up." I said with a kind smile as I passed her, her cup.
"Oh my! This is my favorite type of tea! And this is my favorite, Water Chestnut Cake*!" She exclaimed, as my smile grew wider. She like it too, she always paired the cake with Qimen Red tea*. She was breathtakingly beautiful when the steam surrounded her face, and with the beautiful background…It was as if we went back to that time, back to my spring…But since she left…All that was left was winter…Cold and bitter winter, that froze my emotions and covered my past in a blanket of snow and frost.
Just like how she lay, another reason beside the memories why I seldom left the mountain…My most important person.
My wife.
She smiled with a couple of crumbs on her face, just like a simple girl, not a girl from an influential family, not the daughter of the Prime Minister, and not his wife.
With my eyes slightly glazed, I removed a crumb from her face and casually ate it, like I would with her.
"Why do girls never have crumbs on their face when eating with one of their own?" As her face flushed cutely, she looked to be in deep thought with her brows furrowed, not even ruining her heart shaped face.
"What!? Someone came here?! Why aren't you doing your job correctly! I-" I heard Hong Lei's annoying voice squack.
"Bu…bu…but…" The guards stuttered with pale faces.
"Do not corner them. I was the one that let her in." I interrupted him, and his face changed from that of a demon to a wide grin of an innocent child, faster than that of the actors in a chinese play*.
