Chapter One

•Maya's P.O.V•
"This is it" i sigh as Riley and I exit off the bus "first year of high school" Riley says with a beaming smile on her face "I hope we're in the same classes as Farkle and Lucas" Riley said in an uneasy tone still managing to stay content. I don't understand how Riley can still be friends with her Ex (Lucas), but not that it's a problem staying friends with an ex lover, it's just different when you happen to be crushing over his best friend, yes Riley Matthews has a crush on Farkle Minkus. Lucas deserves every single feeling of betrayal from the two people he loves most just as I did. Ugh my face winces with disgust, the only type of dreaded loathness that only comes up of the thought of Lucas.
I try and hide the bitterness in my face by turning my head slightly to the left not quite facing her direction "Yeah me too" I say trying to force a smile on my face. "Maya." She says with a sincere look on her face as she pulls me to the side "I know you and Lucas have some un resolved conflict going on, but that shouldn't effect our planning to having the best school year of all time!" She says. Maybe Riley's right, I shouldn't let this get in between of our "best year ever", "your right Riles" I say. This might be a good year after all I think while smiling, "good so we are on the same page!" Riley replies as she links onto my arm and we enter into the school. "Maya." "Riles?" "Since were both agreeing on having the best year ever, and to do that we can't keep secrets cause secrets lead into more secrets which leads into not telling each other stuff and I don't want that" she says rambling on "get to the point" I say cutting her off of her next sentence "theirs something you should know" she says. just before I could react I see Lucas coming up behind her and kissing her cheek "hey babe" a wave of confusion came over me, what the hell?! I thought they broke up before summer break! More importantly she told me she has feelings for Farkle! How is she supposed to be in a relationship with someone if she's thinking about another guy!  "Riley can I please speak to you for a moment" I say not really asking as I pull her into the girls washroom "how could you not tell me about this?!" I say , god I have so many questions " I'm sorry maya I was gonna tell you I just didn't know how to say it" she says in apologetic tone "when." I say "a week before school started" she says. I can't believe this is happening, I look to make sure no ones in the stalls as I continue  "what about Farkle?? You said you developed strong feelings for him at the end of the year" she would seriously choose Lucas over farkle?! I'd choose a rock over Lucas any day, what's her problem! "I don't know how I feel about farkle.. but why wait to find out when I know I already have feelings for Lucas?" Is she being serious??"had! Riley you had feelings for Lucas! Just because you date him once doesn't mean you still have to like him once you break up, I know you don't have feelings for Lucas, Riley, listen to me. Don't try and push away your feelings for Farkle just because your unsure of his" I say "maya. I think I know what this really is about." I give her a confused look "i get it you and Lucas have problems and your worried that I will get in the middle of them. But maya it's okay" she says giving me a weak smile " You don't have to worry about me choosing sides or having to pick between you or Lucas cause I will always choose you. No matter what" she says. I guess that was part of what I was worried about, "and if it's a problem I won't date him" she says giving me a smile "no riles, the last thing I want to do is to get in between you and your relationships, if dating him makes you happy then I'm happy" I say smiling, and that was the truth, I do want her to be happy and if what makes her happy is being with Lucas than I'm fine with that " I love you peaches!!" She says joyfully hugging me , I smile and hug back "let's make a promise!" She says taking a hold on my shoulders and breaks from the hug "whatever happens this year we shall never let boys get in between our friendship! That we shall always have time for each other!" She says I snicker a bit "shall?" I say "it sounds more official" she says loud whispering "okay" I say, she's so goofy, but I love her  " Ring power!!!!" She says holding her finger up in the air "Ring power!!!!" I say doing the same thing "Thunder!!!!" She says loudly while smiling "Lighting!!!!" I say as I grab onto her hand. "Maya Hart do you swear to keep this promise? And never break it as long as we live?!" She says as we still hold our hands up "I do, and do you Riley Matthews swear to keep this promise as well and never break it." I say "I do!" She says smiling as we both break into laughter and give each other a quick hug "let's go" I say smiling as I open the door we both go back to Lucas with Riley smiling. I look at him oh god how I hate him. "Hey Riley I checked and we both have all the same classes except for one *he says joyfully as he turns and looks and me he gives me a dull look* ..... Hart.." he say I glare at him and those dark green eyes "Friar" I say before glancing up at Riley, she gives me a week nervous smile all she wants is for me to get along with him..
Why can't I do that? I keep my gaze on her and she looks like young child
Watching her parents fight for the first time. For a split second it reminded me of the way my mom and Kermit used to argue, me trying to stop the yells that they tried to suppress while I was in the room, the last thing I want is for Riley to feel like she can't be around ether of us without having to prepare herself for the worst.. for the first time ever I try and push my loath for Lucas away as I turn and face him "protect her. If you hurt her. Your dead" I say holding my gaze looking him straight in the eye my voice sounding a lot more intimidating than I had planned but that's even better. "I mean it friar" I say not breaking the eye contact, he gives me a nod and we break off the eye contact and turn to Riley, she gives me a small thankful smile, I can't help but smile back. " you and maya have only two classes together history and math" Lucas says as Riley gives me a sad look "it's okay Riles I'll see you during lunch and breaks" I say giving her a reassuring smile, she gives me one back still upset about the lack of classes together *Bell Rings* "time to go to class! What do u have first? Riley says as I pull out my schedule "uhhmm" I say has I flip through the pages, I squint to read the tiny print "apparently their combining two subjects together" I say "which ones?" Riley says walking next to me as looking over my shoulder "science and chemistry..that's my first class. You have PE right now but after that is History and we both have that class" I say "yay! okay! See you next block peaches!" She says waving at me as she enters the gym, I sigh and walk into my class, I throw my stuff on a random desk in the back and sit down. I grabbed a scrap piece of paper and started doodling on it till class started, "good morning class my name is Mr Johnson I am your science slash chemistry teacher. This is how it's gonna work- *door swings open cutting him off* "
"Sorry I'm late" I hear a familiar Texan voice, I ignore it and continue drawing, "theirs a desk available in the back next to Ms Hart," my head shoots up as I hear my name, I look up to see the one and the only "hello ma'am" Lucas Friar...
"you've got to be kidding me" i mumble to my self and sigh in frustration as I lean back on my seat and cross my arms, I can't believe he's here. next to ME. I try and keep my hatred to my self, bitting the inside of my cheeks avoiding eye contact "Ms Hart is there a problem?" Mr Johnson said.. yes of course there is!! I have to sit next to this doofus! "No." I simply reply..Lucas takes his things and places it on the desk next to me and gives me a teasing smirk as he lets out a small snicker, I roll my eyes and shift my body over so I'm facing the opposite direction of him. this should be fun, I think sarcastically. "Okay so as I was saying, how it's gonna work is one half of this class is going to be spent on learning science, and the other half will be about Chemistry, they are both in sort of the same department that's why they combined them together, also since they wanted to make time for these Social Emotional Learning courses. You guys will be starting off in chemistry, follow me to the chemistry lab so I can give you your lab partners" Mr Johnson says as the whole class stands up and follows him to the lab "okay I wrote down all the guys names on these pieces of paper and put them in this basket, I want all the girls to pick a name out of the basket and that will be your lab partner for the rest of the semester" he says smiling as he grabs the basket "when you get a name go take a seat anywhere you like" he says giving the basket each  girl making them choose a name, the basket came around to me and I reached my hand in and gripped onto a small folded piece of lined paper, I bring it closer to me and open it up and read it out loud "Lucas" I kept re reading the tiny paper over and over again expecting the name to change or that they made a grammar error and it was supposed to be Luke instead of Lucas, i had a tiny hope that what I was thinking was true. But i know it wasn't. I didn't even try and protest it, I just walked and found a two seated table around the middle of the class room "friar" I call over, not really sounding all that mad, I'm just done. I'm at that point where I don't even care anymore. He follows my voice and sits next to me, I look down and just doodle on my paper again.

*LUNCH BELL RINGS*
Everyone exits the class room and heads to the cafeteria, I see Riley and sit next to her with farkle across from her, "we should probably go get our food" I say laughing a bit, we didnt want their to be no seats left so we where gonna go in turns to get our food, Riley and I stand up and line up to get our food, the lunch lady puts a lump of chunky and liquidity "mashed" potatoes, I gag a little as she puts the mystery meat on my plate, after she puts about a hand full of fries we head back "is this supposed to have little pieces of hair in it?" I say as I pull out a strand of hair making a disgusted face then siting down at the table, farkle pulls out a sandwich out of his bag "thank god I brought this " he says taking a big mouth full, I grab his sandwich out of his hand and take a bite "maya!" Riley says "what I'm hungry" i say still having food in my mouth "give it back!" She says grabbing it out of my hand and giving it to farkle, I roll my eyes and take a bit of my mashed potatoes immediately spitting it back into my plate, I start coughing and farkle pulls out those mini milk cartons and gives it to me, I take a few sips and clear my throat, "thanks farkle" I say in relief "of course" he says smiling "whatever you do DONT eat the potatoes!" I say just as Riley stops and looks at the fork she was about to put into Her mouth.. it was potatoes.. "hey Guys" Lucas says coming in and sitting next to farkle which is across from me, I roll my eyes and scoff "what?" Farkle says looking at me confused. Farkle doesn't know me and Lucas hate Eachother right now cause he and his dad traveled the world all summer so he has a bit of catching up to do "oh nothing, I just have a bad taste in my mouth" I say giving a quick glare towards Lucas. He caught on and just stared at me, "it must've been from the potatoes" he says  "ya it "must've" been" I say snickering a bit not being able to keep a straight face, "bitch" I hear him quietly mumble under his breath "excuse me?" I say a little shocked and mad as I face Lucas, "Lucas I can't believe you said that" Riley says clearly not impressed, looks like he didn't say it as quietly as he was hoping "Okay what is going on!? Did I miss something??" Farkle says looking at me and Lucas "nothing Farkle . I'll be right back I'm gonna throw away these potatoes, they taste awful" I say as I stand up. I smirk to my self as I walk up behind Lucas and pouring the potatoes over his head, I see Riley and Farkles eyes widen and mouths drop , now that I've done that I feel even more pissed at him than ever, all my anger just starts raging through me "what the hell maya!" He says and the cafeteria goes silent "sorry it was the closest trash can I could find" I say sounding like it was no big deal, I place the bowl on the nearest table and just smirk to myself, that's until he stood up... "You know I always thought white was a good colour on you" he says while grabbing the milk carton and dumping in slowly over my head to get better effect, he just fucking messed with the wrong girl, i grab a ketchup bottle and at the same time he grabs a mustard bottle, he. Wouldn't. Dare. "Don't test me ranger Rick cause I will do it. So if i where you i would put the mustard dow-" he cuts me off by squirting some mustard all over my shirt, I swear I'm gonna kill him! Everyone was dead silent, I walked around the table and spotted a mustard bottle, I grab it in my other hand, just then I see Riley and farkle look at Eachother in an alarmed expression, the whole cafeteria runs out not wanting to be part of this, Riley and farkle back away slowly, still not leaving, I lost my patience and squeezed both of the bottles at the same time squirting it all over his shirt and face, I put the bottles down and rub the mustard and the ketchup I squirted into his face. All of the sudden we both start grabbing food and throwing it at each other, I run up to him with a hand full of pudding I had grabbed and rubbed it all over his face, I try and run away but he grabs my arm and spins me around throwing the unknown meat on the top of my head "What is going on in here!!?!" We both turn around and freeze. Oh. Shit. Just then Riley and farkle sprinted out of the cafeteria leaving me and Lucas to fend for our selves.. "I said what is going on here?!!" It was the one and the only Mr Matthews.
Me and Lucas both turn to each other and point and say at the exact same time "he/she started it!" We said... we are so screwed..
