winter's sleep

8 6 2

i watched the last leaf fall

from the maple tree

reddish brown,

it floated slowly

to the cold ground

the tree standing naked

branches exposed

colours faded

skeletal existence

privacy invaded

I picked up the last leaf

and smiled slightly

knowing inside

after winter's sleep

the majestic maple will once again rise
