These are some terms I will be using in the story, I found it after googling around a bit.
§ Don – also known as “boss” or “capo crimini”. The highest ranking person in an organization.
§ Consigliere – also known as adviser or “right hand”. The only person higher than the consigliere is the boss himself. A consigliere has no underbosses, capo regime or soldiers beneath him.
§ Capo Bastone – also known as underboss. Has the responsibility for making sure the profit goes to the boss. It is often the capo bastone who decides who is going to be caporegime and who of the soldiers who has to commit a murder.
§ Caporegime – also known as captain, capo, or “crew chief”. Originally name “capodecina” (leader of ten), since he originally only had ten soldiers. In more recent times he may have as many soldiers as he can handle.
§ Soldato – also known as soldier, sgarrista, “made man”, or “our friend”. The lowest ranking person in an organization. A soldier must have said an oath of silence (Omertá) and in some organization must have killed a person, before he can call himself “made”. If a soldier works on the day to day basis he is called a picciotto.
§ Giovane d’honore (honour man) – also known as an associate. The terms of a ranking person who is not a soldier in a family, but takes part in the process and the profit in the criminal strikes. In Italian organizations associates are often men of other than Italian birth.
