Ayato is actually an edgy passive-aggressive 9 year-old trapped in a 14 year-old body.
He wants to be really mean to everyone, hence why he calls everyone a "scrub" in the manga, but everyone who knows him personally knows that he just tries to hard and actually doesn't want to hurt people's feelings
