Rizal as Monumental "Guiding Star": Jinjiang, China

PHOTO: Jinjiang, Fujian, China: An exact replica of Rizal's monument in Manila can be seen in the Southern province of China, near his paternal great-great-gtandfather's hometown (Domingo Lamco of Zhang-Guo province). Yes, he's more Chinese blood. It symbolizes the great brotherhood and bond of friendship between the Philippines and China, and to commemorate his Chinese ancestral roots.

The building of the monument began in the year 2002 and inaugurated on January 23, 2003. It made famous because of its fame tall that stands at 18.61 meters high (inspired by the birth year of Rizal), taller than our 12 meters high Rizal Monument in Manila. Built on a five-hectare park making the biggest Rizal Shrine outside the Philipines along its Rizal museum and library.

The project was successful contributed by the combined efforts of the Cua-Chua Family Association where Rizal drew his Chinese lineage, the KAISA Para sa Kaunlaran, which provided assistance and research and substance. The PAL headed the project committee working group, the Tulay Foundation, the Knights of Rizal, the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen, the Jinjiang village, and the city association based in Manila that arranged funding for the project, the Fujian Provincial Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, and the,Quanzhou Municipal Government.
