I flipped the red coffee shop door sign to closed, then I locked the door and headed out on to the crowded streets of New York. It has been about two years since I have moved out from the 20th Ward to New York so I could escape the CCG breathing down my back as well as start a new life. I weaved through the crowded streets of New York, ignoring the overwhelming scent of human around me. As I walked, my ivory white hair fell in to my eyes, blinding me. I ran in to someone, causing both of us to fall over.
"S-sorry!" I stuttered as I moved my hair out of my eyes to view the person I had plowed over. The person I had run in to was a guy with black hair and sea green eyes, and was somewhat tan with the familiar scent of freshly cooked fish surrounding him. The smell I have not been tempted with in a long time. I blinked away my thoughts to notice the guy was already up and offering me his hand.
"I'm the one who should be sorry, my name is Percy." He introduced himself as I hesitantly took his hand and pulled myself up.
"My name's Kaneki, nice to meet you, Perseus." The name forced its way through my lips without my knowing. I let go of Percy's hand as he frowned.
"Nice to meet you, Kaneki... but please call me Percy, it is much preferred." Percy said, studying me. I paused for a moment then realized what I had called him.
"Sorry! May I get you something to eat in apologies for my rudeness?" I asked with a slight wince at how impolite I had been.
"Because you just mixed up my name? Nah, I'm fine. It's okay. People mix my name up all the time, so it's no big deal." Percy said then offered a grin. I hesitated then nodded.
"Okay... I truly am sorry for the trouble I have caused you, so since you won't accept my own apology; whenever you want - drop by the lotus brew, it's the coffee shop just down the street. I'll buy you a drink." I said and Percy nodded with a casual grin.
"Sounds good to me. I have to go, so see you around?" Percy asked, and I nodded in response with a small smile spreading across my lips.
"Of course." I answered as the smell of delicious sea food came flooding over me from Percy, causing my eye to turn under my eyepatch. I cursed under my breath then bowed slightly out of old habits.
"Sorry, but I should be leaving as well. Bye." I said rushedly, then I darted around Percy and hurried away, trying to get far from his addictive scent. After a while of running and probably leaving Percy alone and confused I had finally made it in to my new apartment. I slipped off my shoes and left them by the door. I hung up my satchel and started to move away from the door, but stopped as a knock echoed throughout the room. I sighed then turned back to the door and opened it to show my next door neighbor, Mrs. Jackson.
"Hello Kaneki, I'm sorry to be a disturbance but I heard you running down the hall and I was afraid you were in trouble so I came over to check on you. Are you okay?" Mrs. Jackson asked, concern shining in her eyes.
"I'm alright Mrs. Jackson, I was just happy to be home. That's all." I said and Mrs. Jackson nodded, letting out a sigh of what seemed to be relief.
"Well, I'm sorry to have bothered you. I hope you have a nice night." Mrs. Jackson said as she turned to leave. I gave a tired smile.
"You as well, Mrs. Jackson."
"Just call me Sally." Sally said as she walked away. I closed the door and I sighed as I took off my eyepatch to show that my eye had changed. I threw my eyepatch on to a coffee table next to the couch then I walked to the kitchen and to the freezer. I opened it and pulled out a bloodied package, unwrapping it before pulling out a finger and popping it in to my mouth. As I ate, I walked to the couch and turned the TV on. Almost as soon as it flickered on a splitting headache pounded in to my head. I hissed slightly in pain as I threw the package down then held my head in my hands, the world going dark as I fell unconscious.
