Vera studied the street eleven stories below her, a frown on her face. It really was a long fall. She remembered the time she was looking down at the drop, wanting to so badly take one last step, so she could finally meet death.

Sage watched her from the door, his arms crossed as he leaned against it. His pale blue eyes were filled with amusement as he spoke, ❝Honestly, Vera. I could seriously kill you.

She quickly turned around, the air lifting her silver hair. She didn't even hear him open or close the door.❝How long were you standing there?❞

He gave her one of those cute, boyish smiles. ❝Don't worry. Not long enough to hear your deepest, darkest secrets.

Vera cocked her head to the side, finally taking all of him in. For the past two days, she didn't bother to take one look at his face. The highest she looked up at was his hoodie. She stuck her tongue out. ❝You're actually attractive. Ew.❞

He choked on what seemed to be a cough or a laugh. Or both. Vera couldn't tell.❝Excuse me?

❝You have to have friends. With a face like that, people must bow down to you and would kill someone to be considered as one of your friends.❞

That's stereotypical. People like me to use me. That's not friendship.

❝They still talk to you.❞

Because they want popularity.

❝And because you're hot.❞

That's even worse. They only like me because of my looks. Shameful.

❝I like you because you're you.❞

...

❝Roof boy?❞

What?

❝What's your name?❞

He paused, took a second to think about actually telling her and then softly said, ❝Sage.

❝Well, Sage, maybe you just got the wrong start in life. You just met the wrong people. Everyone has their flaws. You're not meant to be friends with everyone. But before you hand your trust to people who only want you to use you, learn to trust  and accept yourself. Learn to step away from what will break you most even if it hurts to let go.❞

...

❝You're really hot, though.❞

Thanks for reminding me.

❝You're welcome.❞
