Quentin's POV

The Summer was here and it was hot as hell outside. That meant the fiends would be out in full effect with this heat. I walked outside, KeShon, Dev, and Malik were already sitting on the porch serving the fiends and flipping birds.

"Rise and shine, have a good night?" Dev asked spitting out sunflower seeds and smiling at me.

"Naw, I ain't fuck if that's what you thinking. I just got the number. I ain't even bang shorty line yet."

I should have already tho, I couldn't stopped thinking about her if I wanted too, and I already had a girl, but something about shorty was for me and only me.

"Tell em bout them frat niggas who rolled up last night Q, tell em how you handled that shit," KeShon boasted.

"What?" Malik spat, "And you ain't call us?"

"Nigga it won't deep, it was one of her old flames making noise. It won't nothing."

"Damn nigga, you already getting into some shit," Malik chuckled lightening up a blunt. "Tighten up boy."

I laughed and waved my boys off. "I'm good believe that."

"Yea, you better watch ya self for Tay kick ya ass," KeShon said grabbing the blunt from Malik and taking a puff.

I got up off the steps and walked down the block, I had to go see Joe. He had the bricks and we was moving what he had fast. We had to re-up. I walked up to the door of the stash house and did the knock to get let in.

"Ah, here's my favorite, Quentin. How you doing son?" Joe motioned for me to come sit beside him. Joe was a big cat, he always were velour track suits and had them shits unzipped showing off his belly. I loved Joe, Joe slid me a pack when wouldn't nobody tryna plug me, and I showed him the utmost respect for that and became the perfect block boy. Whatever Joe needed, I did that. Even if it meant putting a few niggas in the dirt, Joe looked out for me and my boys and I made sure I gave it all back, ten fold.

"I'm good, Joe. I need some more though, We running that shit fast. Them birds was chirping early this morning."

"When you gone get you trap spot, and stop serving on the steps of where you lay your head? That's bad for business." Joe scolded me for trapping out of me and my girls crib. Dev, Malik, and KeShon bought a little apartment under us so it wasn't like I trapped directly out of me and Tay's spot.

"Come on Joe, I don't plan on doing this shit much longer anyways...I wanna get out of the city. Martinsville ain't got shit to offer me. I'm bigger then Martinsville."

"Where you gone go? Greensboro? Where you gone go? Martinsville home baby, me and your daddy ran these streets."

"No offense Joe, but you know I don't know that nigga," And I didn't. I didn't know shit about my pops. Rarely knew anything about my mom, let me tell it I raised myself, and Joe handled the rest.

"Aye, y'all give my son his bricks so he can finish making me some money. He do better then half of y'all nigga with established spots. How? Somebody explain." I sat there and thought about what Joe said while he went off on some of his workers. He was right, Martinsville was home, but I made up in my mind if I was gone stay. I was gone run this bitch.

I left Joe's spot and walked back to the block, Dev was sitting on the steps by hisself when I got back.

"Where KeShon and Malik?" I asked throwing the bag of bricks in through the window, and sat down beside him.

"Nigga, you know they gone to scam a few bricks and bucks off them niggas at the park, I told them Ian fucking with it, it's to hot today."

KeShon and Malik ran this ball hustle at the park during the summer, they would go down there and bet niggas bricks and bills to play to 15, they always ran it like one of them couldn't play, and niggas was still stupid enough to believe that shit. I shook my head, me and Dev sat there in silence for a minute just watching the streets move.

"Ayo, you tryna ride up to State? There last performance was today so we should slide on em. Nisha said some bout a party or some." Dev asked eyeing me.

"Shit, i'm down. What about them niggas?"

"Man, damn them. Lemme go get changed. I'll meet you at the car."

Me and Dev split up so we could go get changed. I walked in my apartment, and Tay was getting ready for work. She worked down at the diner. She was a waitress. Don't get me wrong. Nitaysha was fine, she was hood fine. You know one of them girls you see rolling through the hood. She had big full lips, she was lightskin with black curly hair, and she kept the ghetto hoop earrings in, we had been kicking it since Jr. High.

"Where you going?" Tay asked me sliding into her work shoes.

"Somewhere with Dev, he want me to take somewhere."

"Yea, I bet. Prolly to see some bitch." She pushed me in the head and walked on past me.

I finished putting on my shoes and followed her in the kitchen.

"Naw, Tay, you know i'm all about you," I wrapped my hands around her waist and pulled her back from the door.

"Now you know, I have to be at work at 6:30, and look Dev is at the car waiting on you."

I smiled, and she was right. That nigga was dressed fast sitting there leaned up against the car.

She had almost walked out the door when I called her to ask her some.

"Tay?"

"Yea baby?"

"What you think about moving?"

"Moving? I can't leave Q, you know i got my ma and my sisters here."

"Not moving out of the Ville. I know you Ville for life but what about a nicer house baby, not this sweatbox."

She looked around and smiled, "If that's what you wanna do baby, i'm for it." She kissed me and rushed out the door. I was right behind her walking to the car.

"You tell Tay where you was going?" Dev chuckled getting into the car.

I just laughed with him, "Hell na, then we wouldn't be going. My car would be sitting on four flats, you know that nigga."

Me and Dev talked about shit all the way up to state, we talked about how we could change the game. The ride to state was about 45 minutes, a little bit more because we stopped at the store and got a few beers on the way. We pulled up on campus and it was lit. I guess cause it was the last day or some, we pulled onto the lot where all the dancers where standing dressed up. I saw Syrah standing there, she was beautiful man, I'll tell you. I thought god, had specifically made her himself.

"Hey Quentin," she spoke so beautiful her voice was like music to my ears.

"Hey girl, how was the last dance?"

"It was bittersweet, you just missed my dad brother. They left, they had to catch their flight back."

I wasn't really ready to meet nobodies Daddy yet, so i was kind of glad shorties pops was gone.

"What y'all ladies getting into tonight?" Dev asked taking a swig of beer.

"It's a few parties around, we tryna hit em up," another girl that dance with them spoke up.

"What about y'all?" Fah'Syrah asked me trying to pick my brain.

"I'm going wherever you going," I said grabbing her hand and smiling.

I could tell she liked that, and I did too. Before the night got away from us. I texted Tay and told her I was crashing at Joes. She responded and that was that. I saw Fah'Syrah watching me and she peeped Tay's name in my phone, her mood kinda changed after that, but I didn't plan on explaining myself not yet atleast.
