I. six minutes and 30 seconds left
we sit in the closet,
the light shining through, the shadows
from our entwined hands casting patterns
from the back wall.

II. six minutes left
we do not do whatever is expected
in a round of seven minutes in heaven because
it's not healthy it's not normal to make out with
your best friend in a closet as people
sneer from the outside.

III. five minutes left
we have not spoken this entire time
although i really wish you would because
i long to tell you how much
i want to kiss you.

IV. four minutes and 15 seconds left
i don't know how much longer is
left and this may be my last opportunity
so i whisper that maybe we should
do something.

V. four minutes left
there is silence
for a few seconds before
you smile slightly and ask
what i would suggest.

VI. three minutes and 40 seconds left
i take a deep breath and surge
forward and we are kissing we are
still kissing we are kissing each other
i am kissing my best friend.

VII. two minutes left
you fall backwards and gasp i giggle and
we are kissing languidly all tongues and taking our time as if
we have all the time in the world even though we only have
two minutes before we return to status quo.

VIII. forty five seconds left
my hands tangle through your amber hair,
pulling strands from the braid, and i grip on tight. your hands
run through the short dark hair at the base of my neck and
we are still kissing kissing kissing.

IX. ten seconds left
i really want to whisper i love you
but i hold my tongue because i know we can't
have much time left and i'm not ready
for your reaction.

X. time's up
we emerge, your caramel braid unraveling
and my dark pixie cut ruffled, and we hold hands when we step out
but let go almost immediately, back the picture of two girls
who are just best friends
