Marie had got off the wrong side of her bed that day. Nevertheless, she perfected her makeup and outfit while swallowing that dark sense of foreboding, pushing it to the back of her mind.

Twirling in front of her mirror, satisfied with her look, she stepped out of the room. She had put on a lot of makeup. Her Alpha was coming back from the North that day. She sighed. Her Alpha.

She walked down the staircase that led to the lawn in front of the pack house. A few she-wolves were loitering around the area, and while some of them smiled politely at her, others stared in disdain at Marie's breasts that jiggled with her movement, covered only by a bra and flimsy tank top.

Marie couldn't wait for Alpha Greg to return. He had been gone too long. Two weeks was a lot of time for Marie. She tipped her head back as she leaned against the sturdy brick wall of the house. The sky was a clear blue, but she could spot a few dark clouds, threatening to make it a rainy day.

An hour passed and Alpha still hadn't arrived. Her mind filled with nasty thoughts and she decided to go for a run. Some unmated males must have sensed this because their eyes were covertly trailing her as she went behind a tree to abandon her clothes and shift.

Marie had just returned from her hour-long run. Her wolf was panting. Sweat trailed through her glossy, white fur. Marie was extremely proud of the way her wolf looked. Her fur had no marks, with golden eyes that made one shiver. She always looked completely out of place with her pack, but Greg had told her that the pack would look beautiful with a wolf as regal as Marie standing in front, next to him. As his Luna.

Greg and Marie weren't mates, but their bond was almost as strong. Marie was unmistakably in love with him. As she neared the pack house, she could smell him. That spicy musk that smelt masculine was close. She did smell something sweet, too, but she ignored it.

She ran and ran and reached just in time for the black Challenger to enter the looming gates of the pack territory. Marie ran behind her tree, shifted, hastily pulled her clothes, ran her hands through her hair, and sauntered to the front.

She waited in anticipation as the car came closer. She suddenly felt nervous. Then shocked. Marie Bentley never felt nervous.

And then her unease intensified. As her handsome Alpha climbed out of the driver's seat, he didn't come toward Marie. Instead, he turned to walk toward the opposite side of the car. He pulled the door open, and out came a fragile, girl. By looking at the side of her face, Marie could discern that she was, indeed, very beautiful.

It began to rain.
