The next morning, Cameron couldn't stop thinking about how Ruby kissed her. The whole morning went by in a haze. She started to make French Toast. Cameron silently pulled out the pan out of her wooden cupboard. Ruby was snoring softly.
Sweaty palms made Cameron drop the pan. The sound echoed throughout her apartment. Cameron never liked to curse, but in this moment, she mumbled 'fuck'. Cameron had hoped she didn't wake up. Ruby groaned and with a raspy morning she said, "What the hell?"
Cameron sighed, "You were drunk. I brought you to my house. Now I'm making breakfast so shut up." Ruby smiled, her eyes crinkling in the corners.
Around ten minutes later, breakfast was ready. Glass plates were set at each side of Cameron's dining table. Orange juice was poured into Ruby's cup, while Cameron had a coffee with a mug that said 'Queen' on it.
Both girls were silent, shooting quick glances across the table. Cameron watched as the steam from the coffee rises in the air, almost dancing. Ruby's eyes were shifted to her food, poking at the French Toast.
"How are you?" Cameron asked, breaking the silence. Ruby looked into Cameron's green eyes and said, "Mhm, tired." Ruby shifted in her seat.
"What's your favorite thing to do?" Cameron questioned the red-head.
"Sleep."
Cameron giggled, Ruby liked her laugh. "I mean really," Cameron gazed in her eyes, "What is your passion?"
"Music, rock and roll, Sinatra, any genre really. It speaks to me. I relate. It puts all my feeling in a three minute track and just... It's the only thing that can understand me."
Cameron took a sip of her coffee. She thought about what Ruby said for a couple minutes. She tried to piece it all together.
Cameron set down her mug on the table, loudly. Ruby flinched, blue eyes growing wide. "Tell me everything. Your secrets, your insecurities, your favorite lyrics. I'm curious. I'll tell you stuff, too. I want to know you. I want to know your 2 am stuff."
Ruby didn't know where to start. Once she did, she couldn't stop. She started with the basics. How her favorite color (wine red) always reminded her of her childhood house. Her favorite season was fall only because of the colors. In the fall, the trees were painted shades of red and yellow. Everything was serene, Ruby said.
Cameron talked too. Her favorite color was baby blue, because it's the color of Ruby's eyes. (Though, she left that part out.) Her favorite season was winter, because when it snowed, it looked like tiny crystals dancing through the sky. She mentioned ex, and how she never felt true love.
The two girl talked for hours. About small childhood memories to random thoughts that came up.
They talked about their fears. How Cameron wanted to be remembered, or mean something to one person. Ruby said very little. Ruby's thoughts frightened her, she didn't have control over her fears. Ruby just wanted control.

"Does it get easier?" Ruby asked with a sigh.
"No," Cameron thought for another second, "Yes, it gets easier."
"Oh yeah? Look at you. You have everything planned out. How? How do you know?"
"The more you know who you are, and what you want, the less you let things... upset you."
Ruby looked at Cameron with red eyes and blotchy cheeks. Cameron's eyes softened, she didn't know what to do.
"I just don't know what I'm supposed to be," Ruby's voice softened, "you know?"
"I tried being a writer but... I hate what I write."
Cameron almost cried because she didn't like to see Ruby so hurt. Cameron just carefully wrapped her arms around the red haired angel, rubbing circles on her back.
"And I've tried taking pictures, but they're so mediocre. You know, and every girl goes through a photography phase," Ruby gave a small smile, "like horses, taking, uh, dumb pictures of your feet."
"You'll figure everything out, and I'm not worried about you."

It was late in the afternoon, and Cameron got up to make peppermint tea. Ruby stayed on Cameron's couch, wrapped in a knitted green blanket.
When Cameron went back to the couch with her tea, Ruby was snoring softly. The caramel haired girl just smiled, and sipped her tea.
The sun slowly started to disappear, and Cameron was almost falling asleep on her chair. She let out a yawn and put her tea cup away. New York City came alive. Bright city lights looked like stars.
Cameron looked at the sleeping angel, and kissed her forehead. Ruby was awake, and felt the whole thing. Cameron didn't notice the small smile that appeared on Ruby's face.
