Cameron's POV
One month later

I was whipped. Head over helps in love, with a girl with red hair. To other people, she was a background character, with no depth or secrets. To me, though, she was the sun, giving me life and warmth, surrounding me with happiness.

We are going to hang out in a couple minutes, and I was doubting my fashion choice. I was wearing a maroon skirt with a plain white top. I had a black jacket on with some black combat boots. My caramel hair was pulled up into a high ponytail. Black glasses surrounded my green eyes. I quickly brushed my bangs away from my face and headed out the door.

I have other friends besides Ruby. Not a lot, but they were still friends. I sounded like a loner. I am not able to hold a good conversation, or have any free time. I'm trying to write a book, I don't have time for people. Ruby's an exception.

The bench has been our meet up place for the last month. Ruby got a job a week ago. I learned the baking is her passion. She got a job at a local bakery.

Ruby has been talking about a boy. I don't like him. He's nice, but I think I'm just jealous. I can't help it. I don't trust this guy.

I sat on the bench. I was early, I tend to beat Ruby. Ruby takes it slow. She goes where the wind takes her. I prepare. I strategically plan out where and when I'm going, and I do it. I could learn something from the redhead.

Ten minutes later, Ruby casually walked up to me with a wide smile. It was wider than I've ever seen.

"Guess what?!" I gave her a puzzled look, "Matthew asked me out!"

That's what his name was. I tried to hide my jealousy. I faked a smile, "That's great!"

Ruby let out a romantic sigh, and I almost threw up. Ew, love. Maybe, I was jealous, or I was scarred by my ex. It was weird, seeing Ruby like this. She was more calm. Now, I feel like she's on laughing gas.

"You wanna go somewhere?" I asked the love-sick puppy. She giggles. Fricking giggles.

"Sure, Cammy!" I blushed at Ruby's comment.

We went shopping. Ruby and I tried on floppy hats and ridiculous outfits. We tried out makeup on each other. Apparently, I cannot do makeup. Ruby looked like every time she smiled, I liked her even more.

Matthew probably has her on drugs. Maybe she's sick, or, I'm getting ahead of my self. Ruby is fine. I look over at her, and she's twirling on the sidewalk. Definitely not okay.

It's summer now. The streets are cramped with families. A little boy's clammy hands are latched to his mother, while the fathers trying to call a taxi. Teens are laughing loudly, holding shopping bags.

Ruby turned to me, with a big smile. She grabbed my hand, and sparks shot through my body. She dragged me to a bar. I wasn't a drinker, I threw up all the time. I thought maybe I should drink, to loosen up a bit.

I just got Mike's Hard Lemonade. I couldn't drink anything heavier than that. Ruby pulled her wild red hair up into a ponytail and ordered shots.

The music was loud. It was cramped with sweaty bodies and drunk friends. My head was pounding as I took a sip of my drink. Ruby downed five shots in a matter of minutes. As the sky started to fade to black, Ruby started to slow down.

Around ten shots later, Ruby almost collapsed. I paid quickly and started to bring Ruby home. I was close to broke, so a taxi wasn't an option. Ruby's arm was slung around my shoulder, lazily.

"Wait, stop Cameron." Ruby mumbled. We sat on our bench, and Ruby rested her head on my lap. Then, she shot up quickly and threw up all over my combat boots. She started to cry, and kept repeating 'sorry' over and over again. I rubbed small circles on her back and tried to calm her down. I didn't really like the shoes anyways.

As her tears dried up, she pulled out a pack of Camels cigarettes. She pulled out a white lighter from her purse, and lit the cig.

I looked at her in disbelief, "You smoke?" Ruby took a long drag from the cig, and I watched the smoke fly into the night. The cigarette light up Ruby's face, leaving a sunset glow resting upon her face.

"I don't know. I just.... My dad smoked, died smoking one, too. Picked up the habit I guess. I smoke when I'm stressed. I'll stop if you want." Ruby stated, softly.

"You don't have to put it out. I don't mind." I actually did mind. But, if it helped her become lesser stressed, I'll bare through it.

"We should get home," I stood up, "You could stay in my apartment, if you want." Ruby nodded slowly, and I grabbed her hand.

We walked in silence to my apartment. Ruby's hand was shaking with nerves. I held tighter to her pale hand and smiled at her. Her smile was faint as she took a deep breath.

"You're smile is lovely." Ruby said, out of the blue. My face turned red as I looked down at my feet.

"I mean, you're absolutely gorgeous... I wasn't supposed to say that. I'm sorry.... I was kidding!" I tripped over my own words. Ruby laughed, like a real laugh from her heart. I immediately smiled.

We arrived at my apartment complex, and finally walked up to my room. Ruby stumbled over her own feet the whole way up. Her mood has been all over the place. She had gotten sad because she wanted her own bed. Then, she started to giggle, saying I looked cute when I was pissed. I just glared at the angel next to me.

Ruby plopped down on my queen size bed and lied down on her side. I took my shoes off and lied down next to her. Ruby reached a hand over to my face and tucked my hair behind my ear. She moved her pale hand down to my cheek. I let out a shaky breath my cheek made contact with her cold hand.

"You're beautiful." Then, Ruby kissed me.
