Cameron's POV

I haven't called her. It's been a week since I last saw Ruby. I said I would call her, but I get too nervous every time I try.

I think Ruby is my muse. That's why I ran into her. Fate brought us together. I couldn't stop thinking about her crooked smile, and the way she blushed. She was an angel and she inspired me.

I actually started to write. My main character just met their soulmate. I haven't been able to write anything else. I was thinking Ruby could help me with my writing. She's probably busy Cameron. My thoughts said to me. Well, maybe she's not busy tomorrow.

With a shaky hand, I grabbed my IPhone 4. I set her contact the same night I got her number. I took deep breaths to calm my anxiety.

I pressed her contact name and pressed call.

Oh no, why am I doing this?

I could barely hear the phone ring over my heavy breathing.

Deep breath in, and exhale. In and out, Cameron. You're okay.

My hand was shaking even more by now and then a voice calmed me.

"Hello? This is Ruby."

Oh my god. I'm talking to her.

"U-uh hi. This is Cameron. Uh... We met last week. Are you free? Um.. I mean... Do you maybe wanna get coffee later?" I asked.

Oh god, please say yes.

"That's sounds great, love. How about in three hours? It would be 2 o'clock." Ruby replied.

I never noticed this before, but she had a slight English accent (which made her sound adorable).

"2 o'clock sound lovely. See you then, Ruby!" Then I hung up. I started squealing. I never did that before. My heart was pounding and I felt fireworks bursting in my stomach.

I've never felt this way about a girl, or anyone in general. This isn't a date though, it was just a friendly meet up. The fact that it wasn't a date upset me, I knew Ruby would never feel the same way.

Two hours later

I had texted her where we were meeting. I was impatiently waiting for Ruby to arrive. My fingers were tapping against the table, making a hollow sound. I was starting to doubt she would actually would come. Then there she was, she walked into the coffee shop wearing a black leather jacket. My face immediately flushed.

Her lips curved up into a smile. Ruby's red hair was braided to the side. It was a little messy, but she looked beautiful. She was wearing a white stripped shirt and black leggings. I was starting to feel self-conscious, she looked happy and confident.

I was wearing a grey sweater with a olive green skirt. I had tights on, so my skirt didn't look too short. My hair was pulled up and I was wearing my glasses. I felt over-dressed.

"Hey, Cameron," The way Ruby said my name almost made my heart explode with love, "You look adorable in glasses."

I looked down at my chipped black nail polish, heating up. "I got you hot chocolate, I didn't know what you wanted."

Ruby chuckled, teeth shining white. "You're so innocent, love." I smiled.

"Let's walk to the park." I grabbed Ruby's hand, sparks flying through my body. The sun was shining, making Ruby's eyes sparkle.

I knew the pathway like the back of my hand. The streets were bustling with people. Cars zooming pass. I never would have thought that being around so many people, it felt like just Ruby and I.

The park was close by. So, I screamed a 'C'mon!' and I dragged Ruby over. Ruby was laughing, and it sounded like bells ringing. Her smile was wider than ever. For the first time, I actually felt alive.

We ruled the playground, Queen and Queen. We raced down the slides, and I won. I haven't had so much fun since I was a child. I've missed this happiness.

My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I was brought back into the cold reality. I pulled it out to see that my mom was calling me. I quickly answered.

"Sweetie, you're dad told me you broke up with Collin. I've told you, he's good for the family. He has money, hon."

My expression fell. I only talked to my dad because my mom is so controlling. She needs to stay out of it.

"Mom! He cheated on me. I loved him at first but, he just wasn't my soulmate. You need to respect my decision." I screamed into the phone.
"Get back with him. He's perfect for you."
"This is why I left for college!" I hung up on her.

Tears formed in my eyes. Oh, simple things, where have you gone. Then I looked to Ruby.
"You should go." I whispered. My bottom lip was trembling.
"I think you should talk about it." Ruby said, softly.
"I need alone time. I'll call you later." I said, a little louder.
"Can I show you something first?" I just nodded. Ruby took my hand in hers and we walked.

Ruby brought me to a bench. She sat down, and patted the place next to her. I sighed and sat next to her. She took my hand lightly, and held it. Ruby's hands were soft and comforting.

I rested my head against her shoulder and cried. I cried about my family problems, my fake friends, and my ex. I haven't cried since middle school. I cried until there was nothing left to cry about.

I watched the cars zoom pass, with no care in the world. It was spring time, and the leaves were turning a vibrant green. I turned to face Ruby.

"Thank you." I muttered. I hugged her. Her embrace was warm, it felt like home. I got up and walked back to my apartment.

I don't know why she let me cry. I was an ugly crier. I don't know why she let me stay there, and I mostly don't know she cared. I had just met her, and she just held me like she loved me.

It hurt. Ruby was just being friendly. It wasn't romantic. She would never like me, I'm a freak. All I knew is, I loved that bench.
