I felt something soft and slightly wet brush my ear, and then disappear. I inhaled deeply and my eyes slowly peeled open to see Connor slipping on his shoes.  With a yawn I sat up in my bed and stretched catching Connor's attention.

"Hey,"he said halting his task and crawling on top of me and pressing kisses against my lips.

"Hey,"I said between the kisses.

"You look even more beautiful when you wake up, "He breathed, and then sat up on the edge of the bed.

"Hey are you about to leave?" I asked.

"Yeah I have to get to Buckingham.  If I'm not there Grandmother will get suspicious."

"Okay, but at least let me cook you breakfast. "

"Sorry, she's probably already pulling her hair out looking for me and Caitlyn is coming by. "

My back stiffened when he mentioned her name and he could tell that he had hit a nerve.

"Hey Jenny--"

"Its completely fine, she is your fiancée...and I'm just ...your mistress."

"You are not my mistress. "

"Yeah I kind of am ...I sleep with you behind your fiancée's back, and then I smile at her--" He cut off my rant with a kiss. I tried to maintain my stance but the kiss broke through my resistance and I returned the kiss.

He pulled back and kept his hand in my hair as he stared into my eyes.

"Don't consider yourself a mistress because you're better than that. I really like you Jennifer ...I know all of this is complicated but I'm working on it and trust me I'll figure it out and things will get better.  I promise. "

I let out a deep sigh but nodded.  He stood and fixed his tie and threw a smile my way. "I'll see you later." After he said that he walked out of the room and seconds later I heard the front door shut. Yeah, I had no right to feel jealous or annoyed at the fact that I was the side chick but hell if it didn't hurt to know that I wasn't more to him than that.  Last night had been great, we had sat up most of the night and talked.  We simply talked about his childhood, mine and it was nice.  I felt myself being pulled into his allure and I didn't need to want him that way.  I didn't want to.

I stood and got out of bed and walked into the kitchen.  I began to make my mother and I some breakfast.  Ever since she moved to England I hadn't been giving her the attention she deserved.  She was too sick for me to be working so much and seeing Connor as often as I did.

I heard coughing from the doorway and turned to see my mother standing there. "Mom, you should be in bed," I said, sitting aside the food in my hand and rushing to her side.  She waved my assistance off and walked pass me.

"Do you have work today?"  she asked taking a seat at the dining room table.  I sat the plate of food in front of her and took a seat across from her.

"I did, but I decided to call in and spend the day with you," I explained and began eating. I didn't call in but I'm pretty sure Connor wouldn't mind me spending the day with my mother.

"Jennifer you shouldn't be neglecting your job because--"

"Mom, that job isn't important. You're the most important person in my life and a job won't get in the way of that," I say and place my hand on top of hers.  She smiled at me, and then went back to eating.

"So I heard Connor leave this morning," she murmured and I stopped eating and looked over at her guiltily.

"Mom..."
