A Christmas Surprise

          You sighed as you walked downstairs for breakfast. It was the day before Christmas, but Shawn wasn't there. He was on tour and his flight was delayed. He wouldn't be with you. You took your hair out of its messy bun and ran your fingers through it sloppily. You smiled, Shawn loved it when you did that. After you ate breakfast in silence, except for the occasional notification beeps on your phone, you put your dishes in the sink. Then, you noticed something. A little sticky note on one of the cabinets. It said, 'Go to where my favorite hoodie on you is. -Shawn <3'

          'But that's impossible!' you thought. Does that mean he's back home? It can't be. You facetimed him yesterday and he was still in Canada. Yet, your legs carried you up the stairs and into your and Shawn's room. You went into your closet and searched for the hoodie. You find it and see another sticky note attached to it. 'Go to where we first met.' You think for a moment. You met at the park! You walk over and to the exact bench where he heard you singing. There is another sticky note that said, 'Go to the place where you helped me write my first song!'

          You helped Shawn write his first song at the pond near your backyard. When you go there, there is a canopy set up by the beautiful water. You go under and see a bunch of red roses forming a heart. Behind stands Shawn. Your heart leaps and you throw yourself onto him, hugging him tightly. He hugs you back and kisses you head. "I missed you so much. I thought you were still in Canada," you mumble against his chest. "I was, but I would never miss Christmas with you for the world. I missed you, too." he replies, stroking your hair.

          You guys stood there for a while, until it got a bit darker. Shawn lit some candles and you had dinner. After, you ate chocolate covered strawberries. "I love you so much," he says and kisses you. "I love you, too." you reply, smiling from ear to ear. "Hey, can we decorate the tree?" you ask. "Yeah, great idea," he says, helping you up and walking into your house, hand in hand. "I'll make some hot cocoa," you say while he puts the lights on the tree. "Extra whipped cream and marshmallows!" he calls after you. "I know!" you laugh. Minutes later, you come back with two steaming mugs of hot cocoa.

          You hand one to Shawn, and place yours on the table. You take a couple ornaments and place them on the tree, humming to yourself. He does the same. "I, um...I have something to give you," he says, looking down. "Ok, what is it?" you question, taking a sip of your hot cocoa. He walks to the tree, and grabs a little box out from under. He hands you the box. You put down your mug, and begin to untie the red bow.You open the box to see an ornament. It is a picture of you and him on the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. The bottom caption says, 'Shawn + Y/n <3 2015' Your heart melts and you go to hand it on the tree. "There's something else in there," he says, wrapping his arms around your waist from behind.

           You lift up the tissue paper to see a beautiful necklace. It was a perfect heart with beautiful, sparkling diamonds around it. Engraved on the back is, 'I'll love you forever and always, xoxo' Tears fill your eyes and you hug him while he puts it around your neck. "Thank you! They're so beautiful!" you gush. He lifts your chin up with his hand and kisses you. You stay like that for a moment, then continue decorating the tree. He lifts you up to put the star on.

          Then, you both stand back, admiring the sparkling, lit-up tree. You cuddle up on the couch in front of the warm fire. His arm instinctively goes around you and you lean into his embrace. Shawn looks lovingly into your eyes and smiles meaningfully. You are right where you want to be.
