Y/N whimpers softly, a hand flying to her stomach in the darkness of the night. At 6 months pregnant, the baby inside her was restless, using it's home as a makeshift trampoline. It had gotten particularly bad today, just before Sirius had come home. Y/N squirms a little, sitting up straight against the headboard. She silently pleads the baby to give it a rest, just for an hour, so she could get some shut eye. She glances over at Sirius whose face is buried into the pillow, his mouth agape and soft snores escaping from it every once in awhile. Y/N smiles softly, admiring her husband's sleeping form. Normally, she'd wake Sirius up when she was in this much pain, but he had been so tired when he had gotten home, she didn't have the heart to awake him from his deep slumber. He had spent the entire day out and about running errands for the Order, and after eating dinner he had stumbled straight to bed.
A particularly stiff kick to her right side causes her to hiss in pain, hand reaching up to rub the spot. "Please baby, be good for mummy." Y/N whispers, eyes shut tightly, inhaling and exhaling a few times, trying to calm her nerves. It bloody burns, to be honest, and she knows the growing babe can't help it, but she's exhausted. Her back is killing her, her ankles are swollen beyond measure, and all she wants to do is go to sleep.
She keeps her eyes shut, and thinks that maybe, just maybe the little babe has listened, when the kicks stop. She lets out a sigh of relief, her head leaning back against the headboard in triumph. Her hands fall from her belly and to the sides of her bed, carefully, so Sirius doesn't stir. He had been an uber light sleeper since the pregnancy anyhow. Y/N feels her head drooping to her shoulder, her eyes fluttering shut, and that's when a particularly hard blow to her lower belly causes them to fly open. She lets out a soft cry, hands reaching to grip the sheets as she bites down on her lip.
"Wha? What's wrong?" A sleepy voice fills the room.
"Babe? What's wrong?" The voice repeats, more panicked when there's a lack of response.
"Lumos" the small table light to Sirius' right lights up, filling the room with a warm yellow glow.
"Y/N?" He questions, sitting up and brushing his knuckles across the back of Y/N's cheek softly. Y/N opens her eyes and sees that she isn't clutching sheets in her hand, but the fabric of Sirius' shirt. He's peering at her with concerned eyes, glazed in a sleepy haze.
" Baby bothering you?" He asks, his large hand covering her belly as moves closer to her, his voice rough and groggy.
Y/N nods slightly, her lip trembling. "Been kicking all day."
Sirius frowns, the sleepiness still apparent in his bold features, before he lowers his nose to skim across Y/N's belly.
"Where?" He demands. Y/N grabs his hand and brings it to the last targeted area.
" 's hurting you?" He mumbles, almost incoherently, too tired to speak in full words.
You don't respond, pursing your lips as the burning sensation fades away. Sirius' eyes glance up to meet yours, and he receives his answer.
He tuts slightly, lifting up the fabric of your shirt and pressing kisses to the area. He leans his head slightly down, and you reach up a hand to run through his hair. " 'S not nice of you, bothering your mummy when she's trying to sleep. Quite a little bugger, aren't you? Oi!" Sirius yelps, when a swift kick is applied to the spot where his cheek is laying against Y/N's stomach.
"Hey now, you behave in there. You're making your mummy feel bad." He growls, glaring down at the spot.
"Settle down." He murmurs softer after a moment, rubbing the spot and pressing his fingers in deeper.
Y/N watches with awe, even though he's half asleep still, he somehow manages to soothe both her and the baby. "Feelin better?" He asks, glancing up at Y/N. Y/N nods meekly, her eyes tired.
Sirius bites his cheek, before darting his head back down, "What's gotten into you, huh? Making your mummy hurt. That's not what we do, alright?" He hums, patting the spot before trailing his fingers entirely across the length of her stomach.
"I -I think it's okay now, Sirius." Y/N mumble after a few more moments of soft mutterings.
"You sure?" He asks, his head still balanced on her stomach.
"Mhm. I reckon the little one just missed it's daddy." She whispers, her fingers running through his hair.
"Sounds more and more like it's mummy, needy for my attention." Sirius chuckles, now speaking in full words.
"Shut up.. Sorry I woke you." Y/N mumbles, as Sirius slides back up next to her and wraps an arm around her waist, tucking her into his chest.
"None of that, sweetheart. You should've woken me earlier. Don't like you being in pain, especially on your own." Sirius mumbles into her hair, pressing soft kisses along her hairline.
"I feel better now." Y/N hums, her face buried into his neck.
"Good, sleep my love." He coaxes, hand brushing into her hair.
And just as she's about to fall asleep, she hears him mumble once more to her baby bump, "You be nice to your mummy, I love her very much, you hear me, my little bugger?"
