Knew It

"Keith, do you have a crush on anyone?"

The question took him by surprise, and the red paladin sat up, looking at his friend. Lance stared up at the sky, his blue eyes examining every star with delicate care. He looked so at peace, almost angelic, the gentle starlight casting light shadows across his almost perfect face.

They had been on this planet, Motiah, for a few hours, mostly just relaxing. Allura and Coran were out on diplomatic meetings, and had left the Paladins to themselves.

Keith shifted uncomfortably under the weight of the question, then laid down again. He though back to a few hours ago, when Lance had practically begged him to come stargaze. While Lance claimed that it was because Shiro was busy doing his 'leader' duties, Pidge was messing with his gadgets, and Hunk was cooking, Keith couldn't help but wish that it was for another reason. One more personal.

But he know that would never happen.

"Ya, I guess," He finally responded, trying to fill the deafening silence. Lance responded with a light hum, his gaze never distracted from the sky above. He pointed out a few constellations, but while Keith struggled to even understand the concept of drawing shapes around stars, he smiled and pretended to be interested. He knew this whole outer space, Mega-Robot, alien fighting adventure was taking a toll on his friend dressed in blue, and if stars made him happy, then Keith was happy, too.

Having expected a bombardment of questions regarding his crush from Lance, the dark-eyed boy was surprised by the following quiet. Why was this so? It was very far from Lance's normal self, who was nosy and persistent, and never gave up the chance to poke fun or one-up Keith.

The shorter boy did his best to relax completely, but the change in Lance's demeanor was distracting. Heck, Lance by himself was distracting. How was Keith ever going to ignore this one?

"So, about that crush, Keith? Mind telling me who the unlucky girl is?"

The red paladin was rather confused, until his thoughts ran over the events from Motiah. It had been almost a whole month, and Keith had nearly forgot he had even told his friend he had a crush.

Keith glared at Lance darkly, furrowing his eyebrows, deciding not to ask about the 'unlucky' part, "I thought we weren't talking about this?"

"Whoever said that?" The nosy boy said in response, "I certainly didn't. Did I?"

Sighing, the slightly shorter boy sat up straighter, to align his eyes with the blue ones across from him, "I just thought, since you didn't question it back on Motiah, you'd let it be."

"Pff, you wish. How could I forget, let alone not talk about it?" Lance shouted, then threw his signature smirk at his partner. Though he'd never admit it, Keith had come to enjoy that little piece of his friend. The one that remembered things, like their old conversations. He definitely did not like the cocky, arrogant side. Not one little-

"Keith!"

The boy sat up again, tearing his dark eyes from Lance's. Speaking of that, Lance did have rather nice eyes...

"Keith? Mullet-boy? You okay?"

"Ya, I'm fine," Keith said, then sighed. In his thoughts, he was debating the pros and cons of telling Lance his crush- on one hand, it would get Lance off his back, but at the same time, Keith didn't want Lance to know he was maybe, possibly... probably gay.

The blue paladin raised his eyebrow, earning a glare from his friend.

"Okay, okay, I'll tell you about them."

Lance fistbumped the air, shouting ecstatically, "Yes! I knew you would tell me soon! Nobody can resist my irresistible self!"

Keith stared at the ground, a light burning feeling spreading through his cheeks and ears as he began speaking.

"Well, um... They're really brave and fierce, and I've never seen them give up on anything," he said quietly. Lance grinned mischievously- he knew Keith was talking about him, but at the same time rather enjoyed watching Keith. The dark-eyed boy glanced up again, before continuing.

"They're also rude, narcissistic, annoying, boastful and unreliable," Lance jumped up, suddenly worried that he wasn't the subject of the matter. Those were all flaws, and in Lance's mind, he had none. Keith continued, "But they're also my friend, and would do anything for me and I... I really like him for that."

"So, they are a he!" The tanned boy shouted. Keith leaped back in surprise, terror crossing his face.

"W-What? No! I never said that he was a he!" The red paladin slapped his hand across his mouth, his cheeks burning bright red. Keith curled himself into a ball, doing his best to not look at the other boy in front of him.

"So is it... Shiro?" Questioned Lance.

"No."

"Hunk?"

"No!"

"I thought Pidge was girl?"

"They aren't Pidge."

"Don't tell me you'd go as far as Coran! Would you?" Lance laughed nervously, though he was thoroughly enjoying this, what if Keith really did have a crush on Coran? Talk about awkward...

"Ew, of course not!"

Keith slowly looked up into the blue-eyes, before leaning towards them. With his heart racing, he grabbed Lance's collar, pulling him down a little bit.

And then he pressed his lips to the other boy's.

A moment later, the smaller boy just barely heard the two words Lance had whispered after pulling away.

"Knew it."
