A gladly lost friend

It has been a year since we met,
My friend.
That year has served me well,
I can now looked forward,
From what I'd never tell.

You helped me see that,
Which hid in plain old sight.
And told me what I had to hear,
Because it was only right.

We talked the truth,
And lived a lie .
But never did you see.
You told me to open my eyes,
That is what made me free.
I saw that which I didn't believe,
And started learning too.
But by the time that I looked back,
You were far too behind for me.
Your dreams too small,
With options so wide
Being with you was a cage,
In which I didn't want to hide.

Finally I realised that you weren't the cage,
But a bird along side
Too fearful to fly.
You loved the cage,
And the hate that it bred.
But for me I just wished,
To be dead.

I had to let go and live my own life,
I know I left you.
But there i couldn't thrive.

You werent mine.
I was never yours.
We have to move on,
And close all the doors.

Little bird, open your eyes.
You were made to fly.
Jump out of the cage.
So you can fly high.
Some day, you never know,
We might meet again.
But only in the sky.

This is my way of trying to explain,
I know I broke both our hearts
But I would gladly do it again.
