"God, I'm terrified," Anthony says, finishing with his hair.

Ian nods. "I hope we like them." Anthony takes a deep breath. "Ready to go?"

Anthony nods.

"Now don't be nervous, Skye," Cathy, a 13 year old girl, tells her friend. Skye nods. "They're going to be just as nervous as you."

"Why?" She asks.

Cathy shrugs. "They just are. It's like meeting a new puppy for the first time. It's a new member of your family."

Skye sighs. "Cathy, what if they don't love me and take care of me so I die?"

Cathy giggles. "I don't think they'd be here if they didn't want someone to love."

Suddenly, Mrs. Palmerston walks in and tells Skye that it's time. "Good luck, Skykarra!" Cathy calls.

Skye walks into Mr. Palmerston's office for the very first time. She's nervous and wants to hide in her room.

Also in the room are two young men, who also look very nervous. One of them, Skye notices, has a loaf of bread on his head, and she almost giggles.

"Mr. and Mr. Hecox-Padilla, this is Skykarra."

Skye waves shyly.

"Hello, Skykarra. I'm Ian." The loaf of bread man sticks out his hand to shake.

Skye wants to tell him that she goes by Skye and not Skykarra, but she's too scared. She hesitates before eventually allowing the man called Ian to shake her hand.

"You can call me whatever you want. Ian, Daddy Ian, Papa Ian, etc. I don't care at all." He smiles at her, but only one thought runs through Skye's head.

Suddenly, she starts crying. "I don't want them! He doesn't love me!" Skye screams, pointing at Ian, who looks petrified. "He said he didn't care, and if he doesn't, then I'm going to die of starvingness!"

Mrs. Palmerston tries to calm her down and Mr. Palmerston just looks at her irritated. Ian and the other man start yelling at each other while Skye continues to scream.

"HEY! EVERYBODY JUST SHUT UP!" The other man shouts. Skye tries not to cry from being yelled at. "Skye, all Ian meant was that he doesn't care what you call him, not that he doesn't care about you!"

Skye sniffles and wipes her nose. "Really?"

The man named Ian nods. "Sorry for the misunderstanding, Skykarra."

Skye nods. "That's okay. By the way, you can just call me Skye."

Skye had already assumed that it was too late, anyway. After her fit, the two men probably gave up on her anyway.

"Please adopt me! I'm so sorry that I threw a fit! It won't happen again! I promise!" She says. Mr. and Mrs. Palmerston just watch in silence.

"Of course we'll still adopt you, Skye," the other man says. Proceeding this, he signs the papers and asks Skye, "Are you ready to go?"

She replies with am eager nod.

"Well what are we waiting for?" Ian asks. "Let's go!"
