01 January 2015

Happy New Year! Another year has flown by and I hope that this will be an exciting year. I've been in need of a change, so this year I am leaving the nest and moving to the beautiful city of London — by myself. Well, not technically since one of my good friends lives there. I plan on keeping track of my adventures in this journal (I plan to write in here daily), but like every other New Year's resolution, this one will probably go down the drain (I give myself at least a month). Who knows, by the time February arrives this will most likely be long forgotten, but I am determined.

Goodbye!

— (Y/N) xx

All that could be heard around you was the loud chatting that all blended together in the big building that was the airport. Standing in the midst of the bustling crowd, you gripped onto your suitcase as you scanned the layout of the tremendous building. You were unbelievably ecstatic; the nerves tingled through your veins, filling you with an odd sensation. Today was the day where you would be starting a new chapter of your life, but this time in a foreign city that you knew very little about. This gave you a fresh start, a clean slate where you could make whatever you wished of yourself. Not to mention that a change in scenery was very much needed after living all of your life in your hometown.

You were afraid of moving, but luckily for you a good friend of yours currently resided in London and she had agreed on taking you in and giving you the grand tour of the city. You were grateful for her; you would not be completely alone for the duration of your stay.

Tuning back in to your surroundings you noticed that many people were hastily walking in certain directions, eager to catch their flight. The fast movement made you dizzy and confused; it wasn't often that you were found in very busy places much like this one. You searched frantically, attempting to decipher which direction was the correct way to your destination. Temporarily disoriented, you continued walking in your initial direction.

Nobody was boarding the flight yet, causing you to release a short breath of relief; you had made it on time for once in your life. According to the smiling lady sat a couple of seats away from you, there was still roughly an hour left before people were allowed to start boarding the aircraft. Everything was lonely, leaving you with not much to do; you did not want to waste your phone's battery just yet.

Boarding the plane proved to be a task; it was loud — everybody's voice blending together to form some unknown language — you struggled to listen to what the flight attendant was trying to say. Along with the muddled talking came the usual wailing emitting from babies and toddlers, or children that were talking a hundred words a minute, or adults whom were dressed in professional clothing and chatting into their mobile devices.

Once most of the passengers were settled into their assigned seats a kind voice spoke over the intercom. The woman reviewed simple facts such as where the flight was headed and basic safety regulations — which you kindly tuned out. The flight totaled six hours and you were not looking forward to it, just the thought of sitting for six straight hours made your body ache.

"Excuse me, Miss. Would you like anything?" A kind-faced flight attendant caught your attention.

"Just some water, thanks," you replied, reciprocating her warm smile. Nodding, she handed you a clear plastic cup filled with water.

Accepting the cup from her, you mumbled a quiet "Thanks." Taking a small sip you turned to face the window, from the height you were able to see all of the rivers intertwining with each other like veins in a body.

An agonizing six hour flight later and you were finally landing in the city of your dreams. Everything was so different and exciting, you wanted to get out and explore right away. However, the thought of your awaiting friend kept you from doing such things. Carefully pacing the airport, you went on a search for her.

It did not take you long to spot her as she was frantically waving a poster board with your name written on it in huge capital letters. A huge smile was plastered to her face as she continued to wave you over. A light blush flourished the apples of your cheeks, the situation was just a tad bit embarrassing, but you didn't mind that much. You had missed your friend.

"(Y/N)! (Y/N)!" She chanted, waving you over energetically. Once you were in close proximity of her she dropped the handmade sign, giving you the tightest hug that you had ever received from her. "I missed you so much!" She stepped back, examining you closely. "You haven't changed one bit."

You sent her a smile, stating that she hadn't changed either. In fact, she looked exactly as she did when you last saw her — which was about a year ago.

When your luggage was collected after a tedious thirty minutes, you were ready to head to the hotel room that you had booked beforehand. Climbing into your friend's vehicle she drove you to the hotel; she had offered for you to stay with her, but you declined not wanting to waste the nice hotel room that you paid way too much for. The ride there was filled with questions coming from your friend; she had wanted to know every single detail of major events that she had missed ever since moving. You had missed this; you had missed being able to talk about everything and nothing at the same time, you missed the spontaneous conversations that you two would have.
