Getting high in my best friends basement
This is how I spent most Wednesday nights the summer of my sophomore year
The six of us sprawled across her green leather couches
While her mom sat upstairs waiting for us to come up so she could have someone to talk to
And her dad out in the garage never speaking a word
Drinking blue raspberry UV
Talking about possible skinny dipping
Or just letting ourselves fall asleep
Stepping outside to smoke a cigarette
Ending up in the pool naked
This is how I spent most nights that summer
Going for drives down highway C
Sitting on the window sill
Wind blowing my hair all around me
Squatting to pee in the bushes near a statue of Marry that look like a penis from the back
Listening to the same music
Over and over again
Camping out in back yards
Burning holes in carpets
This is how I spend most summer nights
I never thought I would be one of those kids
I told myself I'd never be one of those kids
Taking cold showers hopping I'll come out less hung over
Washing the smell of cigarette smoke out of my hair
Brushing the taste of vodka, tabaco, and vomit off my teeth
Eating waffle house
Wearing the same shirt for 3 days
This is how I spend most summer mornings
Having my best friends mom buy us vodka
Streaking in my own neighborhood
My parents a few doors down
Unaware of their intoxicated naked child
To my teachers who ask
This is how I spent my summer
