Michael
I flipped onto my side to achieve a comfortable position on the couch before dozing off. These days, I was exhausted enough to go to sleep in an instant.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Yo. Michael. Change of plans. We gotta go."
I pretended not to hear.
"Like now. Dude. We need to hurry."
I sighed and opened my eyes. Above me was Nate, waving his hand over my face, pretending to snap me out of la la land. I sat up and surprisingly didn't get a migraine from the flash of a blinding light. I wondered what had happened.
"Why do we have to leave so early..." I asked, groaning.
I tried to close my eyes again but he grabbed the pillow beside me and smacked it over my head.
"Hey!"
"It's ten AM you goof. Anyways, we need to finish finding Karina. Who knows what they could've done to her by now?" He said while pacing back and forth.
"Aren't we supposed to be running away from them? Not towards them?" I asked again.
"Only the big scary leader would know where Karina is. He's the one who planned this whole crazy thing anyways."
I sighed. Sighing was my thing lately.
"We already packed most of the things into the van; I'll meet you out there." He said, then headed out.
I packed up my laptop and its accessories and checked my phone.
How long did I sleep? Twelve hours? On that note, I shoved my phone into the laptop bag and ran out the door. Outside was Ackerman and his sister; she was tall, just like Ackerman, but had short brown hair--not blonde like his. I stopped for a moment and listened to their conversation.
"So you're just going to leave them?"
She crossed her arms.
"No. They need the information on their friend."
They spoke in low voices.
"They are clearly in danger."
"I know, I know. Let's just go."
She stared at him with a dissatisfied expression and got into the driver's seat. Ackerman saw me and turned around. I pretended that I had just walked out of the house.
"Good luck. We'll stay in touch my friend." He said before ducking down into the car.
I watched them drive off.
"Hey what are you waiting for? Let's go." Jason yelled through the back window.
"I'm coming!" I yelled back, then walked to the car.
I took the passenger seat, which was my own reserved spot. Cedric was on the driver's side, talking to Irene through the window.
"Three days is overwhelmingly short." Cedric finished off saying.
I tapped on the GPS on the dashboard and entered in the location that Ackerman had given me the night before. Somewhere in Nanaimo, British Columbia.
"Yeah yeah, I know. We can't stay though." She replied, sighing a little.
I the aux cord into my phone and began searching for a good song.
"Yo, get on with the sappy show so we can leave already." Jason said.
