Again I lacked the strength to even balance myself. I just stared at her with a void in my chest. It astonished me how things changed drastically after she spoke the word, 'dead'. Things I didn't even pay attention to, came vividly before my eyes.
She didn't look skinny, she looked weak, even her bones were visible. That heavenly dress she wore wasn't in any way heavenly; it was the cheapest that she could afford. It was worn out a little near her neck. Her daughter's dress also wasn't very costly, but it was the most she could've spent. Ayushi was eating alone, maybe because she couldn't afford a meal for her own. She wasn't wearing a single jewelry on her body. Maybe she was working two jobs. All these things, they tore my heart in pieces.
Her father was a rich man, but then I remembered one more reason why I had fallen in love with her, her independent nature no matter what.
She read my mind. I got that she did. I had nothing to say & she wasn't in a situation to go through any kind of consolation. We both understood, it was time.
"It's getting late. I think we should leave now." She looked at Ayushi & smiled as if nothing had happened. I nodded.
She held her daughter's hand, smiled looking back at me. It twitched inside my heart knowing so perfectly she had learnt to fake a smile. The person, who looked at me wasn't Ridhi, not even close.
