"No thanks," I said. "I'd like to stay in one piece."
"It's not that bad. I do it all the time," Skyler said.
"How many people have had their bodies disfigured because of this?"
"Before or after the prototype?"
"Both."
Skyler started counting on his fingers. "497..."
"See? Not doing it."
"...divided by 497."
"Seriously?"
"Yep."
"I don't want to do math."
"It's one."
"Oh. Okay then. I'll do it."
"Great. Follow me."
Skyler lead me through the maze that is the Garage. It took us 15 minutes to find the machine.
"So how long do we have to get there?"
Skyler glanced at his watch. "Ten seconds."
"Power it up then."
"It's always powered up. I just need to put the coordinates in."
"Then do it."
"Done. Get on."
We stepped onto the platform. The machine whirred as bright lights flashed.
"By the way, there's something I forgot to tell you."
"What's that?"
"You know I asked about the before and after the prototype?"
"Yes."
"This is the prototype."
"WHAT?!?!?!"
"And it's only been tested once before."
"YOU PIECE OF-"
And a white light obscured my vision.
