i'm taking you on

if i'm going to love you,
let me love all of you,
Not just the pretty patterns
your right fingers traced
on paper; i want to know
where your left hand had been.

if i'm going to love you,
introduce me to your night
as deeply and as intimate
as you pulled me in your brightness.
and if you hide, perhaps as shy
as a sleepy plant on touch,
i will love you as your dainty leaves
fold inward, caress your spine
as only these humble fingers could,
for as long as you want me to,
for as long as you would,
for as you need me, i will stay,
and long after that, even,
but let me know, let me know
all your colors, light and dark,
for i know it's not mere spark
that prompts me to try and hold you
and have you and all of the intricacies
you carry in your heart.

do i ask for very much?
i only ask that you'll be true
if i'm going to love you, darling,
let me love all of you.
