My father used to say / don't waste your time / take what is rightfully yours by hand / I was never close to him / nor will I ever be / but his words have struck me / his words stay with me.
My mother used to say / stay strong and endure / kindness was not my thing / but neither was it hers / and even through distance and lack of affection / I find I stood up every time I fell off.
My brother used to say / use both your heart and head / you're a creative little girl / you'll manage well / perhaps he was right / perhaps he was not / but under these circumstances / I find that I am doing as he said so.
My sister used to say / do what makes you happy / but what does make me happy? / who am I in the end? / am I the the silly girl she speaks of? / is it that I'm condemned? / whatever it is, I assume she was right / for now I am following my own path.
