To Want Something Better Is No Disgrace {13}

Start from the beginning

"They have dates. It's better off not to bother them."

    "Aww, Carter..."

"No, it's fine, Ari. It's fine. I'm good."

"I'm sure there's a girl there at the dance dateless. Maybe you can ask her to be your date for tonight." Derek suggests.

"You, my man, are a genius. I'll have to turn on my flirt mode then." Carter says, cracking a grin.

I smiled and rolled my eyes, "Oh Carter..."

When we arrived at the school, we all got out of the car and put our masks on.

As we walked towards the entrance, I saw Cameron standing by the main entrance.

"Hey Ari." he greets me with a smile.

"Hey." I greeted back and hugged him.

He puts on his mask and smiles, "Ready?"

"Of course." I said and linked arms with his.

"Have fun, kiddos." I heard Carter say as we walked into the school.

"You look beautiful tonight, Ariana." Cameron whispers to me.

I smiled, "You look very nice yourself."

    "Ah, Cameron."

We both turned around and faced the Dean of the school, Mr. Parker.

    "Hi, Mr. Parker." I greeted.

"Hello, Ariana." he responds with a smile.

    "Uh...hey." Cameron says, nervously.

"I'll have to expect appropriate behavior tonight, Cameron." Mr. Parker warns him.

    "Yeah, don't worry." Cameron replies.

Mr. Parker nodds, 'Now, go have fun you two."

I smiled, "Thank you." And Cameron and I walked into the gym.

Music was pounding through the speakers when we entered the boisterous gym.

Cameron and I pushed through the crowd of people bouncing up and down to the beat of Party Rock Anthem, trying to get to the other side of the gym.

When we finally managed to escape the crowd, I heard my name being called.

I looked around and found Kerri with Jesse, walking towards us.

"That is you right, Ariana?" Kerri says.

    "Yup." I replied.

"Good. 'Cause I recognized the dress and the mask." she says with a smile.

    "Hey Ariana." Jesse greets.

    "Hey Jesse." I said, smiling.

"You two look so cute together." Kerri says.

    "Aw, thanks." I replied.

"So, where's Derek? And your brother?"

"I guess they disappeared right after we got into the school."

I looked over to Cameron, talking to Jesse, "How are you and Jesse?"

"Great. He's being sweet, as always."

    "That's good."

"Hey, I'm gonna go get a drink. You want some?" Cameron says to me.
