"Well, wasn't that a nice meeting." Erik said with a sigh as he stuffed his hands into his coat pockets. "Did he seem a bit off to you?"

"He did, yes." Charles nodded in agreement, slowly opening the file that was handed to him. "And I see why..." He trailed off, his face contorting to disgust the longer he read the file.

"What is it?" Erik stopped wandering to walking over to his friend, snatching the file out of his hand.

He began to read its contents, but only a few sentences were finished before the door to the office was opened again, but this time, a girl stepped through.

The first thing Marian noticed when she walked into the room was only one train of thoughts. Which was odd, considering the fact that there were two men standing in the room. Marian's eyes narrowed behind her hair as she looked to the shorter of the two, and she pushed harder to read him, but the connection slowly crumbled.

"A Telepath." The short one spoke, his lips twitching into a smile as he nudged his friend in the side. "You don't have to worry, Marian. We are here to help you."

Marian quietly scoffed, keeping her eyes down cast as she moved on to the next man, easily probing his mind. Bitter, angry thoughts bombarded her brain the further she pushed, and she winced as this mans past flashed in front of her eyes.

"Marian, are you li—"

"Many people lie." Marian spoke, her voice startling the two men at how thickly accented it was. "They lie, so you lie as well."

"I can assure you, we are not lying." Charles shook his head as he brought his pointer and middle finger to his temples. "You can trust us."

As Marian had done earlier, Charles tried to get a reading off of this girl, but he ran straight into a wall, shattering his telepathic connection.

"She's a very strong Telepath." Charles said with a small gasp, a wide smile forming on his lips. "Tell me, Marian, is that all you can do?"

Marian finally raised her head to get a better look at the two, and she narrowed her eyes at Charles. "You already know." She spoke, glancing to the file that was in Eriks hands.

"Care to demonstrate?" Erik spoke for the first time since she had entered, making her tilt her head to the side. "It says here you control a... red mist? Really?"

"Erik..." Charles shot him a warning look, one that clearly told him to watch his next words. "What he means is—"

"I know." Marian turned her attention to Charles for a second before looking back to Erik. "Only if you'll help me, metal man."

Erik rose an eyebrow at her nickname for him. It almost made him want to laugh. "Telepath, remember."

"Ah." Erik nodded his head, and he turned back to Marian with raised eyebrows, obviously wandering what she needed help with.

Marian took this as an okay, and she raised her hands into the air, her wrists facing the ceiling. This gave the men a clear view of the metal cuffs on her arms. "If I use my powers, they shock me." She stated, pulling lightly at a metal cuff. "Only guards can take them off."

"Then why don't they?" Erik asked, making Charles elbow him again while Marian gave him a blank look.

"I'm sorry for Erik." Charles shot his friend another look before he turning back to Marian, who shrugged her shoulders. "Erik, please."
