1945
Being only five years of age, little Marian Glenn didn't know much about what was right and what was wrong. She also didn't know what was presumed weird, and what was not.
"Momma, momma look!" Marian exclaimed gleefully as she waved her hands around in the air, a red energy spewing out of her finger tips. "It's like magic!"
Jocelyn Glenn looked on to her daughter in fright, her heart jumping into her throat as she watched the scene in front of her. Racing forward, she dropped her gardening tools as she quickly fell to her knees, grabbing Marian's hands and folding them in her lap. "Marian, sweetie." Jocelyn said as a whisper. "You can't do that, okay?"
"But momma, did you see?" Marian looked up to her mom in confusion. The red dust had flown around the yard beautifully, picking up her small wooden blocks as she waved her hands. "It was so pretty!"
"I know sweetie, momma saw it." Jocelyn replied with a nod of her head, pulling Marian on to her lap with shaky arms. "But people don't like that. Okay?"
"But why?" Marian's eyes filled to the brim with tears when she heard this, and she let out a small sniffle. "People should like pretty magic like that, right?"
"It's okay, Marian." Jocelyn cooed, rocking her daughter in her arms as she began to slowly cry. "Don't worry, mommy is here."
"W-What about daddy?" Marian asked, looking up to her mom with big, questioning eyes. "Will he like my magic trick?"
"Oh... why yes." Jocelyn nodded her head as she hugged her daughter to her chest, looking up to the sky as she sucked in a deep breath. "Daddy will love it."
1956
Eleven years had past since that day of revelation for the Glenn family. Marian's so called 'magic' grew greatly, making her parents fear not only for their daughters life, but for their own lives.
"Okay Mom, Dad, I need you to watch this." Marian stated one day, hopping into the room with a large grin on her lips. "Just watch."
Jocelyn gave her husband, Bruce, a worried look, but nodded none the less at her excited daughter. Marian clapped her hands ecstatically a few times before bounding over to the window, pulling the curtains over the glass to block the sun, as well as blocking the room from sight.
"Marian, if this is—"
"Daddy, please?" Marian faced her father with a pleading look on her face, lacing her fingers together. "I promise, I won't ask you anymore. Just watch, please."
"Okay, sweetheart." Bruce nodded his head as a small smile formed on his lips, glancing to his wife before crossing his legs. "Show us."
"Okay, okay." Marian jumped in front of her parents, and she gave them a smile before raising her arms in front of her body. "Here we go."
Marian closed her eyes in concentration, waving her fingers slowly and gracefully as she did so. Immediately, red energy burst from her finger tips and flew around the darkened room. Marian reopened her eyes, but instead of her usual bright hazel color, a scarlet red was in its place.
Jocelyn gasped in shock at this new transformation, making Bruce grab her hands for comfort as they watched their daughter. Marian gracefully waved her arms around in the air, her fingers maneuvering the red energy to surround certain items in the room, lifting them into the air.
"So?" Marian looked to her parents with her red eyes, making them flinch back a bit at the intensity of the color as she smiled. "What do you think?"
"Marian... sweetie..."
Marian knew that tone; it broke her heart as she watched her mother fidget uncomfortably in her seat. Her father wasn't any different. He had a look of uncertainty on his face, his lips cast down in a frown. Marian closed her eyes as she let out a dejected sigh, breaking the connection with the energy as her arms dropped loosely to her sides. The energy dissipated almost immediately, dropping multiple objects on to the ground with a loud clatter.
"I'm sorry." Marian mumbled, looking back to her parents shamefully as she wrapped her arms around her body. "I'll clean up the mess."

"B-but why?" Marian's voice cracked with emotion as she looked to her fathers stern features. "I-I haven't done anything wrong."
"We know, sweetie." Jocelyn cooed as she bright her daughter into a comforting hug. "But it's for the best. We just want you to be happy, that's all."
"I am happy!" Maria exclaimed, pushing away from her mother with a sudden look of rage on her face. "I am nineteen, and I have full control over my powers! No one even knows about me, or what I can do!"
"Marian Hope Glenn." Bruces strong voice echoed throughout the kitchen as he crossed his arms. "Do not raise your voice at your mother."
"You're only doing this because you're scared!" Marian exclaimed, her eyes dangerously flashing to their scarlet red. "You're scared that I'll hurt someone, but I won't! You just don't want to admit—"
A burst of red energy suddenly flew out of Marian's hand, soaring quickly towards a vase and smashing it to pieces. The small shards of glass flew into the air and flew dangerously close to her parents, making them duck away from Marian.
"Marian, sweetie, listen to me." Jocelyn's voice shook in terror as she hid in her husbands arms. "Please, we just want you to be safe."
"Safe? Is that what you want, to be safe?" Marian scoffed as she clenched her fists by her sides, making the shards of glass clatter to the ground. "Where did you two plan on sending me anyways?"
"To an institution in America—"
"Of course, one of the furthest places away from home. How nice."
