Ciel stood next to the mirror, smoothing his stomach and watching himself through large, empty eyes. He hadn't worn shorts to school before and wanted to assure himself they looked alright. At sixteen Ciel looked peculiarly young, girlish even and acted with an odd mix of weary maturity and childish anger. Once he was satisfied with the knee length shorts he sat down and closed his eyes. Three irregular knocks hit the door and Ciel called "Come in"; probably his foster mum bothering him about what he wanted for breakfast. Ciel glanced at her and registered the worry clouding her face. She was an odd looking woman, with unkempt red hair, contrasting with her acid green eyes and ghostly skin. Usually she would be smiling mischievously, flashing her pointed teeth.... Ciel could tell this was serious and stood up quickly. "Do you like my shorts?", he asked quickly, hoping his fashion driven mother would be distracted. "Ciel....", she said quietly. "Cause I reckon they look pretty cool...And I've never worn them befo-", he continued babbling till he was cut off by a sharp "Ciel!". His mother glowered at him before sitting down and sighing dramatically. "Ciel darling... daddy and I have been talking about this for a long while and well..... We're fostering another child", she drawled all this in her irritatingly drawled accent and frowned at him anxiously, noting his suddenly furious expression. "Why? How old are they? God I bet you'll make me spend all my time with them and they'll be a right problem kid and....", he saw his mothers flashing green eyes and silenced himself, looking to the floor. "His name is Alois, he lost his parents like you ciel.... He's sixteen too and I've been told he's very sweet and um...you always wanted a brother....", his mother paused and Ciel began muttering bitterly "I never bloody wanted a brother! And at sixteen I bet he's gotten loads of issues and he sounds really bloody annoying". Ciels eyes met the floor. Despite his annoyed front he could easily burst into tears- was he being replaced? It had taken a great struggle for him to accept his foster parents as family since they had taken him in at the age of twelve. And now they needed someone better.... Maybe they thought they'd get an interesting kid this time. "Are you upset poppet?", she asked, flinging her arms open for a hug. "I have homework", Ciel lied coldly and waited for his mother to flounce out of the room. He'd never wanted a brother....
