Wiping the sweat from her brow she pushed down on the accelerator. The sooner she made it into town the sooner she could finally get some sleep. The six hour drive in her old beat up Volkswagen Beatle with no air conditioning hadn't seemed that bad. But the trip was starting to wear her down. Turning up the radio and cranking the window down, the cool summer breeze threw her hair. Regretting for probably the tenth time in the past two hours for letting her black hair get so long. The lengthy strands sticking to her neck.
Finally being greeted by the welcome to town sign, she entered Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Riding through the bustling town, she pulled into The Pleasant Inn. Turning off the hot box she had been trapped in. She exited the vehicle, looking up at the three story wood crafted building, that looked to be at least a few decades old. The few balconies she could see looked like great places to curl up with a book and watch the sun set. The grounds surrounding the place were beautifully manicured. Colorful flowers and and a grand old willow tree just intensified the enchanting feel of the hotel.
Marching up the front oak steps, just pushing the front door open seemed to be a struggle. She was more exhausted then she thought. The front desk was empty, walking further in she saw the dining room and a huge brick fire place.
Ringing the bell on the counter she waited until she saw a middle aged woman with graying brown hair and aged beautiful round face, walked around the corner. "Hi hun! Sorry to keep you waiting, my husband locked himself in the gardening shed out back. That old dunce could get himself stuck in a paper bag!" Instantly liking this woman she smiled. "I'm Cindy, the owner and manager of this fine establishment! How can I help you today?" The warm grin on her face showed years of laughter. "My name is Luna Black, I called about a week ago about one of your rooms?"
The look of recognition instantly lit up Cindy's face. "Of course! I should have known! We aren't normally busy during this time of year with summer coming to an end an all. We have your room all set up. I hope you enjoy it! And I'll have my husband Rick bring your bags up."
Grabbing her room key Luna trudged up the steps to the third floor. Her rooming being at the very end of the hall. Unlocking the door and stepping through was like finding her own little piece of paradise. The wood furnishings all centered around the brick fire place made the room look rustic and the colorful thread barren bohemian rug just added a flare of difference that pulled the room together.
The queen bed sat in the corner. The goose feathered pillows and the over sized quilt was calling her name. She collapsed and as soon as her head hit the pillow. She was out like a light.
