You walk down a rusted road, occasionally dodging acidic holes and scattered pieces of meteor. Checking your explorers map, you think about your newfound journey in this post apocalyptic wasteland. Your home land has been at war with the mysterious "other side" for some time now. The government absolutely refuses to reveal anything about the situation, and anyone who protests the lack of help and information mysteriously and suddenly disappears. With the whole area in fear, the government has complete control. Family members take even brief goodbyes seriously, for they know that each nights farewell could be the last. You are included in a lucky handful that was disclosed a small amount of information about the countries situation. However, this was not out of kindness. The government wanted to employ you-yes, you, and a small batch of other people recognized as "useful" to go and in some way, gather information about the "other side".  You were chosen for reasons unknown to you, and so were the others. Your job-to infiltrate the country in any way possible, seeming to be an ally, while you really are finding out their secrets. Your reports back to your country should be loosely about a month apart. All this must be managed by you and the small cluster of others before another war erupts, potentially finishing the planet off for good.
Upon completion of the mission, they claim to honor you beyond your wildest dreams. But in this corrupt world, the shady government rarely honors their promises. Unfortunately, you have little choice. You either fulfill the wishes of your country, or live in constant fear of the governments all-seeing eye. You shake your head sadly. This task could very easily be the death of you.
You continue traveling, occasionally turning off the road to check that you are still going in the right direction. You veer off the road onto a small side path. Shrubbery slowly starts dotting the horizon, making you stop in wonder. It seems to be less contaminated.
A forest now lines the side of the road, which amazes you.
I guess this was a less affected area, you think with both joy and slight despair. This spot would be a perfect hideout, but if the other side finds it-or has already found it-well, it would give them a huge advantage. You make a mental note of this, seeing as this would be important information to relay. Your senses suddenly tingle, and the years of training your brain have payed off. You have a vague idea of what's happening. Someones running behind you. And they're approaching quickly.
Stopping dead in your tracks, you try to figure out what to do. But only one thought is running through your mind: I'm dead.
