Typical Day

I can't say that I've ever fit in. I'm one of those kids who always know the answer, would rather curl up and read a book rather than going outside, and just stuck out constantly. I never had cared for typical childish activities like tag or hide-and-seek, instead gravitating towards things like books and schoolwork.

My classmates thought I was crazy. They just couldn't understand how a book or a math problem could be more exciting than running around like a headless chicken.

I had the Magical Advancement System memorized by the time I was five and had advanced to Witch Rank by seven. I didn't inform any of my classmates of my accomplishments, but even now, I doubt that they would have cared. They often pretended I didn't exist. It made them feel better about themselves, I suppose.

"Can anyone give me all the ranking of the Magical Advancement System in the correct order?" Ms. Demeran, the teacher of my Mavics class, asked cheerily.

How that woman managed to stay so cheerful when talking about the political systems of different countries, I'll never know. Was it fascinating learning about all the different political systems, governments, and economies present in the dimensions of Solente, Mungusto, Antrissen, Gyrenna, Kunoti, and Wuistry? To me? Extremely. To other people? Not so much.

I raised my hand without as much as a thought. Over the years, it had become a mechanical movement.

Ms. Demeran glanced around the room, obviously looking for anyone else to answer, but everyone else had their hands down and glued to their sides. With a sigh, she called on me. "Fallon?"

"The lowest ranking of the Magical Advancement System, also known as the MAS, is Magician. The next rank is Witch or Wizard, followed by Sorcerer and Sorceress. The highest ranking of the MAS is Mage. Other minor groups, such as Warlocks and Enchanters, can fall anywhere between Magician and Sorcerer or Sorceress," I said simply, not bothering to dive into any details. That would only result in at least half the class falling asleep.

"That is correct. Thank you, Fallon." She turned around and began explaining how the MAS tied into the jobs people could hold in Solentra and the few other countries in the Solenten dimension.

I zoned out again the minute she began to discuss how the different ranks worked together to keep our economy in balance. I already knew everything I was supposed to learn in this class years ago, so it didn't really matter if I payed attention. Heck, I could probably sleep through the entire class and still know more than my classmates.

Thankfully, the class was over in a little over ten minutes. Personally, I enjoyed Mavics, but I knew that Ms. Demeran had grown tired of me being the only one who seemed to know anything about civics.

I gathered my things and left the classroom, trailing behind my peers as they rushed to put their things away. All of them had lockers where they stored their things, and I had one too. I just never used it. Why bother when I could just magic my things into my room or vice versa?

I also didn't have to attend any other classes after Mavics and would go to my room, so there really was no point in putting my things in my empty locker.

Strolling casually, I walked down the hallway and down the stairs past the school's office. I nodded to the secretary, Mrs. Eroya, as I passed by and left Chronum, school of magic.
