Chapter Twenty Nine

Start from the beginning

She had the final lace of her corset top pulled tight and tied in a bow. Pharaoh examined herself in the mirror. Twenty four years old. Two children. An amazing soon to be husband. Five successful businesses. She smiled to herself. She was doing good, better than she ever thought she would be. She glanced around the room at her bridal party. Lia, Noni, Javon, Sadie, Sophia, and Aubrielle. But no Aria. Regardless of how much Pharaoh reached out to her, she continued to be stubborn and hate her for only lord knows what. A five year grudge... But for what? Pharaoh could never figure it out. She refused to believe Aria was jealous of her, but in the end that's what it all came down to. Jealousy, one of the ugliest traits a person could possess. "You look gorgeous, honey! You got me ready to put a dress on myself." Javon said wrapping his arms around her shoulders. "Can I marry Erin? She can wear the suit!" He pouted, talking about Zane's lesbian friend. Pharaoh actually took quite a liking to Erin, not in an attracted or intimate type of way, but she was like another older sibling added to her list. Erin was protective over Pharaoh. She was like a female Dareus, but more sensitive and she was never attracted to Pharaoh in that way.

"You're crazy, Javon." Pharaoh laughed. "You better get on one knee and ask. Nicki and Lee have to agree first though." Javon nodded, while smiling. He knew Nicki wasn't going to go for that, nor was Lee. Both Javon and Erin would have to fight off each others significant others before they even got to intimately hold hands.

The girls and Javon finished getting ready, meanwhile the guys were sitting around already dressed. "Leave it to the girls to have us nearly an hour late." Zane shook his head. "Why they can't be like you E?" He scrunched up his face frustrated. He just wanted to marry his love. He didn't care if they had to go out there naked, in jeans and tshirts, wearing pajamas. He just wanted to hear Mr. and Mrs. Zane Torian Carter come out of his fathers mouth. Zane's father was their ordained minister. Zane had learned to forgive him over the years and they had become closer. His dad separated from his wife and even moved back to Chicago.

"You know it ain't nobody, but Pha." Dareus and Erin spoke at the same time, then laughed. They really were one of the same. They wondered all the time why they hadn't met a long time ago or if they were somehow separated at birth. They were too much a like to not be related.

"Daddy, I'm ready!" Major walked into the room they were all in. Major had wanted to be with Sid while everyone else was dressing. When Major waltzed in, everyone couldn't help but bust into laughter. He had a confused look on his face. "What's wrong with you guys?" He scrunched up his face like Zane had done just a little bit before.

"Son... You do realize that your clothes are on all wrong right..?"

"No they're not dad. I dressed myself!" He smiled big, showing his toothless grin. Both of his middle bottom teeth were gone.

"Boy, your shirt is buttoned wrong and your pants are on backwards." He shook his head. "You can play the hell out of basketball, but can't even put your clothes on right." Major scrunched his eyebrows together, making a mad face and folded his arms across his chest. Even when he tried to be mad, he was cute. "Come here."

"No. I'll fix my own clothes." Zane put his hands up in defense and shrugged his shoulders. Major started to button and unbutton his shirt, but still couldn't get it right after multiple tries. He gave up and groaned walking to his father. "Fine! You fix it!" He rolled his eyes and let Zane make everything right. By the time he finished, Sid was walking in to tell them it was finally time. Zane, Rocky, Dareus, Levi, Erin, Ced and Major got up to leave the small shack.

Walking down the aisle first was Zane, followed by his best man, Rocky. Then it was Dareus and Lia, Levi and Noni, Javon and Erin, and lastly Sadie and Ced. Major was the ring bearer. Him being Zane's child, he liked to show out. A lot. He couldn't walk down the aisle like they'd practiced in rehearsals, he had to go and do his little jig all the way down and then had the nerves to Harlem shake when he got to the end. He even dusted off his shoulders before going to stand next to his father. The crowd couldn't help but to laugh. That dance was so long before his time and they could only wonder where and how he'd learned it. If only they knew he made his father set up Aubrielle's stuffed animals and dolls, then play some form of rap and do a soul train over and over down the middle of the toys every Friday. He learned so many old school dances and a lot of new ones from his father. After Major's turn down the aisle, the golden runner was rolled out and Sophia and Aubrielle had their time. Sophia played the role as Aubrielle's co-flower girl. She was there to lead Aubrielle in the right direction and make sure she dropped flowers. Aubrielle couldn't even make it halfway down the aisle after she saw her daddy. She hasn't seen him since he tucked her into bed last night. She dropped her basket of white rose petals and ran all the way to him, screaming daddy before jumping into his arms. Aubrielle was a chubby two year old. Her little wobble run was so cute. The crowd awed, especially the women. Sophia picked up Aubrielle's basket and all the spilled flowers and took over the job, finishing quickly. Then it was the moment everyone had been waiting for. Bruno Mars' It Will Rain played softly on the piano as one of Pharaoh's cousin serenaded. That was Pharaoh's cue. She took one last deep breath before clutching on to her fathers arm. "You ready sweetheart?"
