Between Choices

I've hit an epiphany of sorts, and I wanna share it with you all.

Here's a hypothetical question for you.

If you could choose between saving the lives of 15 women and 5 men, or 5 women and 15 men, or 10 women and 10 men, who would you pick?

Please do not read further unless you have an answer.

Okay, so I'm hoping that if you're reading this, you have an answer.

If you have an answer, I want to tell you that you are immediately wrong.

There is no right answer to this question. Human existence is not binary. There's not just "Yes" or "No". There will never come a time in life when you're faced with a choice like this. If some sort of threat looms over a group of people, then you will save yourself and as many people as you can.

To elaborate on how ridiculous this question is, change "Men" and "Women" to other controversial tags. Black and white. Religious or non-religious. Attractive or ugly.

Answering a question like this that makes you pick sides is going to do nothing but incite some sort of hatred or chaos. If anyone forces you to give an answer, no matter how innocent it may sound, it will be an advocate of chaos. It's not a straightforward matter and it's nothing short of idiocy to say that it is. Nothing in life is a pick between a set of things.

Not even morality is binary. Nothing is either good or bad. Everything is various shades of gray and if someone picks a shade and asks you "Is it more white or is it more black?" what will you say?

You tell that fucker that it's gray.

Picking a side is a recipe for chaos. I'm not telling you to straddle the fence. I'm telling you that human beings are unique, each and every single one, and every issue is going to have a billion factors effecting it.

Don't pick a side. Just try to do what's right.

When people pick a side, they fight for it. A popular example is feminism. People fighting for feminism are not fighting for what's right, no matter how much they insist that they are, they're fighting for feminism. The same goes for anti-(social justice warrior) groups.

The same goes for religious and non religious and racial groups.

Living isn't simple. Morality isn't simple. Nothing about living is simple. But everything can be done simply. Irony of existence, I suppose.

Everyone says that they're trying to fight for what's right. They're not. They're fighting for what they believe in and if what you believe in is binary, (e.g. abortion is right, abortion is wrong) then an example will come where you will do the bad thing.

That's why there are controversies.

People pick sides instead of what's right.

I believe in doing what's right, and I will keep that separate from all the other things that make me who I am, things like Asian, Muslim, Male, etc.

I hope you do the same.
