To understand the basis of forensics science, it is important to be aware of the two most common reasons as to why it is difficult for the general public to learn about forensics science.
The first reason is that there is a consensual concern among professionals about preventing the knowledge of forensic science falling into the wrong hands. Because of this, no public resource will ever give you a complete understanding about the subject. In fact, even police professionals and prosecutors will not be allowed to enter certain laboratories that use the latest techniques in areas such as DNA profiling.
The second reason is to protect witnesses. Because of this, most information regarding modern cases are kept confidential.

On a final note, much of the so called information about forensic science comes from the news or the media, who usually have no better understanding about the subject than the general public. Popular television dramas such as CSI and Sherlock dramatise concepts of forensic science and often use fantasy elements to aid their scriptwriters. While we may feel inspired by their series, they are not the best source of information.
