When Deadpool was tortured after his failure in Department K, Death would hang out with Deadpool and they would have fun. She was the reason that Deadpool wanted to die (so they could be together). Thanos was jealous of Deadpool, so he gave Deadpool's rival (T-Ray) the power to bring Deadpool back to life after he was killed by Weapon X. Thanos also gave him an item called the Gemini Star which would split Deadpool's personalities from him (making him boring, so he would be unappealing to Death). However, the plan failed. So Thanos cursed Deadpool with life, preventing Deadpool from being with Death.
