I ran up the stairs and slammed the door shut, then dropped onto my bed and stared at the ceiling. I tried Blocking out everything, the sounds, the voices, the yelling. For a moment it was completely silent, all i could hear was myself think. But then it all came back.

I looked around my room one last time, then I grabbed my suitcase and headed down the stairs. Jerry, my social worker, was waiting for me by the front door, he had a big smile on his face as usual.

"Any last words?", he asked as he took my suitcase.

I sighed and turned around. Everyone was looking at me as if they cared I was leaving. I forced a smile and waved goodbye.

Jerry was taking me to meet my new foster parents. This is the 13th foster home I've been to in the last 12 years. I don't really remember my parents. All I was told was that my father was an alcoholic and died while drunk driving.

My mother was left alone with me. Apparently we were already struggling with money. When my father died she was a mess, we had no money. So then my mother was "forced" to abandon me when I was 7, she never came back. Its's not like I'm waiting for her or anything, besides, I'm seventeen, one more year than I'm outta this hell hole.

We finally got in the car. Part of me was happy, but another part of me was scared. Moving foster homes meant starting all over. New school, new home, new foster parents. I'm not really surprised though, that i moved. I mean it was about time. Either the foster parents make up some lame excuse to get rid of you, or you make the tiniest mistake and they send you packing. I didn't do anything wrong though, I stayed at that home for almost 2 years. They make you change every couple of years so you won't get too attached, but the worst part is when you finally feel comfortable, they send you off. .

"Everything will be okay", I whispered to myself.

"Did you say something Skye?", asked Jerry.

I almost for got that Jerry was in the car because i was staring out the window the whole time.

"Uh, no", I replied.

jerry is such an amazing guy, he's always so positive, even when times are rough. He's always been there for me, even when i didn't deserve him.

"So, how are you doing?", piped Jerry.

"Fine, i guess", i replied, my eyes boring into the empty streets.

"You know what, i think that this going to be a good home, its in a nice little neighbourhood, and there's a high school just up the street", said Jerry, trying to lighten up the mood.

" Yeah, that seems great", I said playing along.

We pulled up to the house, there was a tall lanky woman woman standing in the driveway. She waved and headed right towards us.

"Hello! Welcome, my name is Mrs. Ross!", she exclaimed as we got out the car.

She seemed deliriously happy, either it was an act or she was actually genuinely....happy.

"You must be Skye Newman?", she gestured.

"Uh, yeah, thats me", I replied, as jerry handed me my suit case.

I looked at the house, it was enormous, this lady must be loaded. It was probably one of the most nicest foster homes I've seen in a while. The grass was a bright healthy green, the house was a sandy beige colour with a bunch of spacious windows, and the driveway was so big you could probably fit eight cars.

"My, my, what a lovely home you have", Jerry complimented.

"Thank you, and you must be skies social worker, Jerry Davidson, i assume?", she asked.

"The one and only", chuckled Jerry.

As they continued talking i decided to look around, this house was so beautiful. Scratch that, this MANSION was beautiful. The house looked so well taken care of. The atmosphere was even nice. And the woman, she was being so polite and friendly. Maybe staying here won't be so horrible after all.....

Jerry and I said our goodbyes, then he left. I watched Jerry drive away until I couldn't see him anymore. Mrs. Ross was waiting by the door, she looked at me with a big smile.

"Come on now dear, don't be shy", she said, gesturing me to come inside.

I grabbed my suit case and headed towards the door, and stopped right in front of her. She looked at me once again, but this time her smile seemed different. It was like a devilish smirk. She opened the door and went inside, i followed.

The room was very polished and organized. It seemed even cleaner than it was outside, there wasn't even a spec of dust, I looked around, i wondered where the other foster children where. It was silent as if no one was home, but then Mrs.Ross shouted a girls name to come down.

"Emma! come here now, we have a new guest to our home!".

Her voice was so demanding and irritating, it hurt my ear drums. I heard footsteps, then found myself looking at the top of the staircase. A girl appeared, she was really pretty. She had long straight blonde hair and a pair of dull ocean blue eyes, seemed about my age. She was waiting there, like she had a cue to come down the stairs or something.

"Emma we don't have all day, hurry up, how many times do i have to tell you!", she yelled .

The girls eyes widen at her sudden outburst, and scurried down the stairs.

"Sorry Mrs. Ross", she apologized, then turned to me.

"Hi, my names Emma, Emma Woods, here, i'll show u around", she said lightly smiling.

She seemed really sweet, but her smile couldn't meet her eyes.

"Tell her the rules, I have a meeting, i'll be back soon, and Emma, your in charge, no mischief while I'm gone, Am i clear?",she stated.

"Crystal", replied Emma. Then in a flash she was gone, What a relief.

There was an awkward silence for a couple of seconds, till she finally spoke."So, thats Mrs. Ross, welcome to your own personal hell", she said.

" Yeah, she seems... interesting." I replied.

We both laughed. " So your Skye Newman, right?, she asked.

" Yeah, thats me".

Emma showed me around and took me to my room, or our room. It was just a big room filled with a couple of beds with and a little personal area for yourself, There was no privacy.

Then she told me the rules, how we all had a job to do around the house, no after school activities without permission, how you have to be in bed by 10:00pm, how the house needs to stay tidy 24/7, and blah blah blah.

After Emma showed me around i decided to head upstairs to my room. I sighed and then toppled on my bed. Emma seemed okay, maybe, just maybe this place won't be that bad. I pulled out my most amazing pair of silver headphones and listened to some music. There was just something so incredibly amazing about music, it was like my get away. All I could hear was the soft strums of a guitar, and a soothing voice. I finally felt at ease. It was my distraction from reality and i loved it. I stared at the celling until I dosed off.
