"You know what i mean Corvus?" she asked me inbetween her breaths.
I nodded as i drank from the tea she bought me. Taylor Sage... A girl with a long distance relationship. We were in a small coffee place that had glass windows everywhere, sunlight came in and the constant cold air from the air conditioner made this place every cats dream. It was warm. Sunny. And cozy. I closed my eyes and took a deep breathe in.
"Corvus?" she asked.
I opened my eyes and looked at her. She was sporting a new haircut, her straight dark red hair was barely touching her shoulders. Her blue-green watery eyes were full of sadness and concern.
"I know taylor." i told her. I put my hand on her shoulder.
"You walk down a path no normal girl should walk. He betrays your trust. Yet you love him. You're strong." i told her. She covered her face as she burst into tears in her seat. Inside the coffee shop. With everyone staring at us.
"I'm not." she said in between her sobs.
"Taylor. Look at me." i told her. She immediatly put her hands down and looked at me as she still continued to cry.
"You walk a hard path. You're strong. You've been walking this path for over 10 years. Ever since you were 10. You cry behind closed doors. You've been strong for so long, crying doesn't mean your weak. It just means that your heart has been strong for too long." i told her. I placed my hand on her hand.
"And that you know..." i stopped. Pausing at what i was about to say.
"What?" she asked, her tears drying away now as she stared at me.
"How much stronger you can be." i told her. She smiled and wiped her tears away.
"You're eyeliner." i told her. She ran to the bathroom embarrassed. Now i sat alone. With everyone staring at me. Undoubtedly thinking i made her cry. She ran away from me wiping tears away. Of course everyone thought i made her cry. Probably thinking i broke up with her.
People are idiots.
"Excuuuuse me!?" a female said from behind me. I turned around and was staring at the angry blue eyes of a teenager.
"You shouldn't break up with people in public. Especially with a pretty girl like that you jerk!" she said spilling her tea on my face. The coffee shop was now silent.
I sighed as i stood up.
Like i said...
People are idiots.
"I apologize." i told her. I grabbed a napkin from the table and wiped tea off my glasses.
"Is that all?!" she said.
"Why apologize to me?! Apologize to your girlfrie-"
"First of all." i said calmly as i stood up.
"She is not my girlfriend. She is my bestfriend." i told the girl. Horror was written on her face.
"Second, i was comforting her about something i can't tell you." i added.
"Third..." i hesitated...
"Nevermind." i said as i walked towards the men's restroom. I passed taylor and before she could ask what happened. I was in the restroom. I walked to the dark brown marble sink and took off my glasses, placing them on the marble top. I unbuttoned my red and dark blue checkered shirt and tied it around my waist. Thankfully my shirt didnt get too wet. I splashed water on my face and stared at my reflection. My blonde/brown hair messily combed upwards and back, but somehow looked like the modern hipster look. My blue eyes watery and sad.
Should i had told Taylor that her relationship is parasitic. Should i had told her the truth...She's nothing but a dumb girl...Making the same mistakes for love that will never be returned to her. She walks a hard road. One that is barren of life. Void of feelings.
I sighed and dryed the water from my face with a paper towel. I put my silver rimmed soft rectangular glasses back on and walked outside.
"Corvus... I'm sorr-" she said waiting for me outside.
"Don't be. It was just a misunderstanding." i told her. She made a confused face.
"What do you mean?" she asked.
I was confused.
"Why were you going to apologize?" i asked her as we walked back to our seats.
"I always vent to you. I don't know what you see in me." she said, picking her brown purse up as i sat down. I thought she had apologized for the misunderstanding she created that lead to the tea spill... She sure was very conscious of her own life.
"I'm sorry, Jeff called me. I gotta go. She said as she answered a call from her boyfriend. She exited the door and was gone. I picked up my norse book and continued reading.
I knew she was very interwoven with her life. She has a job. And drinks on her days off. Yet. She never remembers anything about me. She never asks how i am.
I turned a page.
She doesn't remember my favorite color. Ever. I was in the part of the book where Loki killed his Son who was a world eater... Using a weapon of fire and ice. A weapon. A tool. That's what i am to her. Nothing but a tool. Something to use when she's down. Pretty soon. She'll throw me away.
I turned another page.
Pretty soon...
Taylor will commit suicide.
It's inevitable. I've done all i can these past years.
I've read everything i can about her. I can make her happy. I can make her forget the pain. But not when the parasite is still attached to her.
The human heart can only handle so much. After reading 45 chapters it was now the afternoon. I closed my book and put it in my bag. I stood up and walked to the cashier.
"Thank you Liz. I'll have the same drink tomorrow. Good night." i told her.
"Good night...Corvus." she said shyly. She liked me. A lot. She moved her brown long hair away from her light brown eyes and behind her right ear. Her face was red. She didn't ask about Taylor. She knew i was single. I have been. She knew that i came here every friday and saturday to read. Today taylor just happened to come in and spot me. I walked to the exit and threw my cup in the trash can.
I looked at Liz again, just as her glance left my gaze.
"Goodnight" i said again as i left the store. I walked to my car and unlocked the door with my keys. I sat down in the seat and sighed.
"Human's are idiots. Myself included." i wrote down in my phone's notes. I inserted the key and my car roared to life.
