Chapter One

“Do it!” Penelope urged as we sat in my car in front of the comic book store. We hadn’t even looked in the window yet but they had already given me the dare for my eighteenth birthday. We have driven to the next pack over so that no one would know what we were doing.

“I don’t know guys.” I sighed, setting my head on my petite hand.

                “Why?” Noelle whined.

“Because I don’t want to make a boy’s day and leave,” I said with a smirk and a wink which made both of them giggle.

“Happy Birthday Ali, so it’s time to do your dare darling.” Noelle said and dragged me out of the car. We walked up to the comic book store and Penelope opened the door for me. Walking in my powerful aura took over the place filled with nerds and geeks. My blonde-brown hair flew back with the breeze and my hazel eyes glowed with beauty and power. I was the third born to the Alpha of my pack so I had power flowing from me. My power was then countered. My head flipped and landed on a boy who sat at a back table. At the table sat a group of people holding seven cards with a deck parallel to their left arm. A pile of cards was in the center of the table. A scent hit my nose. It was woodsy and smelled of peppermint which left a slight hint of it on my tongue. My wolf inside howled with completion which I blocked out. Something was odd about this situation.

“Ali, what’s wrong?” I heard Penelope ask me.

                “What do you mean Penn?”

“You’ve been standing there for like two minutes.”

I cleared my throat and knew my plan of attack. I was going after the kid that seemed to be the source of this smell. From the back I could see his messy blonde hair, muscular arms and body stature, he seemed fit and completely out of place here. I winked at my girls and strutted over to the table. I saw the boy’s body stiffen, and him restrain himself from turning his head to look at me.  He knew what I was and who I was. The other boys’ eyes popped up from their cards and they eyed me with speculation and confusion. I personally would not be caught dead in here. My attitude proves that. But I also could never turn down a dare. I guess that was a little bit of my Alpha kicking in, but who couldn’t help but be a little daring. I pull a chair out from another table and sit by him. His eyes drift up with no real interest in me, until his ocean blue eyes meet mine. He knew full well who I was before he made eye contact with me, but some people need convincing. “Hi,” I said with a smile. The girls looked at me as if to tell me, ‘go already, no relationships’ I sigh through my nostrils as he says hi back in this husky, deep voice that seemed to make my knees weak. I stand up slightly in the chair and take the cards out of his hand. I set them face up and in my peripheral vision I can see his friends gawking, but a dare is a dare. “It’s nice to meet you,” I said and crashed my lips to his.  Sparks flew where my skin connected to his and this was one of the best kisses I had had. At first I was scared that he wouldn’t react with how forceful I was being. Luckily he kissed back with the same urgency that I had begun to feel. He was an Alpha, and when a male Alpha meets his mate this can go fast if he had the initiative to act upon on it and I could feel his wolf wanting more. This boy pulled me to him in the middle of the comic book store. We both pull back and I look into his eyes which were slowly turning black and I see him whisper “Mate” and I get up quickly, grab my friend’s, who were giggling, and drag them out of the store. In the distance I hear a chair clatter to the ground and the door that had just shut behind open with great force. “Stop!” A command comes and my wolf howls from the dominance in my mate’s voice which I lacked at certain points even with my Alpha blood. With the power that dripped off his words Penelope and Noelle certainly slowed, but it was all directed at me. I fought back with my internal power, even though I had stopped momentarily. He was speeding up and I ran to my car. I climbed in and hurriedly shut my door, in which Penelope and Noelle followed suit. I sped out of the parking lot, avoiding him in every way. I was so not ready for a mate. As I sped away Penelope and Noelle laughed and giggled about what had just happened. I sigh and turn up the radio so I can tune them out.

After around three hours we were finally back on my pack’s territory. The Pacific Pack had most of California but still wasn’t one of the strongest packs. On the way to the pack house we passed the finished Amtrak that ran through most of the west coast and the states beside it which stretched to Colorado. Every place in the US had one now but this was the one that connected our states. Our werewolf communities were the ones that funded it but only the Alphas and Beta personally knew, not even their relatives were told, so it had me slightly worried. When the mansion finally came into view I let out of sigh of relief to get out of this suffocating car. I knew that I had taken the fastest way I could find that house, but that still wasn’t fast enough. When we parked I gratefully jumped from the car and rushed to the house with the girls behind me. As I fit my key into the lock I could hear my father talking to some people in his office. I walk in with Penelope and Noelle in tow when I hear my name called. I say goodbye to them and go to my father’s office since he had been the one to call me. I drop my purse on a table when that peppermint sent hits my nose and I brush it off, thinking it was just me since I might have made out with him the middle of a comic shop. I push open the doors to my dad’s office to see my family, consisting of my mother, older twin brothers, and my little sister. On the other side the peppermint scent that I had smelled finally made sense. He stood there with the Alpha from one of the largest packs in the US, his mate and other daughters who I had met at one event or another, but I had never met my pepperminty stranger. When I had walked in the room I had seen him stiffen and eyes widen with surprise. Looking over at my brother I saw that they had noticed the slight exchange. My parents had been talking and the little girls did what little girls do, play with dolls. “Father,” I nod as I walk in and go over to my brothers who both wrap an arm around my shoulders. I then feel my mind being prodded at. I open up the connection and sigh when both of them bombard my mind with a,

                ‘What the hell was that?’

‘What?” I asked, playing as if I knew nothing.

‘Xavier has never been affected by any girl when I have ever been around him. He was always an odd one, but you Alice, have done something.’ Oliver pointed out. He was the eldest and the next Alpha. He had the same hair color as me but instead he had bright emerald eyes.

‘You know the one type of wolf that could make him notice Ollie.’ Owen said with a slight cocky tone that also held knowing.

‘Mates,’ Ollie hummed, ‘You know what mates do Ali. They kiss at first, then the mark that can make any girls knees go weak, and then to fully mate they-‘

“Ollie!” I screamed aloud and all eyes landed on me, even though Xavier’s had never left.

“Alice,” my mother began, “are you okay?” she asked, worry apparent in her eyes.

“Yes, mother,” I said with a smile. “You just never know what can appear on your mind now a day,” I finished elbowing Oliver in the side in which he let out a grunt. My mother sent him the death glare and then continued with her previous conversation. After a few more minutes of our not listening our names were called.

“Oliver, Owen, Alice, and Fallon I need you all too actually listen now.” My father began and, we the older three, chuckled. “Now all the Alpha’s in the US have all decided that all werewolves will be attending the schools that we all attended that had been previously shut down when we believed that all conflict was gone; but it seems that many have raised and we want our young to be prepared. Classes start next week and there are five schools in the whole country. This is the reason that we have built the Amtrak’s. They are the fastest trains around so they should be able to get to school in thirty minutes tops, and this leads us into our next topic,” he continued. “Alpha Jacobs children will be joining us since they live farther out than we do and it would take longer for them to get to school, so we gladly invited them to come and join us.”
