Chapter 2: A Very Special Mission

The two boys walked to the gate where they are supposed to meet their team, Naruto with a bouncing step and Sasuke stalking sulkily behind. As they passed the villagers, some smiled but the majority frowned and hustled their children by. Their fear of the fox demon trapped within Naruto drove them to overlook reason. They hated to see the last Uchiha following after the blonde haired boy but they were forced into silence by the oppressive Lady Tsunade.

Naruto tried not to notice the retreat of the villagers, and almost succeeded, until he nearly ran into a child rushing across the street to their beckoning mother.

The collision was not great and Naruto caught the child before they fell backwards.

"Thanks onii-chan!" The child said gaily flashing an open mouthed grin at the bright blonde, his brown tail twitching in appreciation. He ran over to his stern looking mother and was pulled inside before the shocked Naruto could get a word out. Sasuke prodded the frozen blonde's back.

"We have to get to the gate... Onii-chan~," he said that last part with a smirk and Naruto blushed.

"You don't have to tell me that teme!" He shouted. Even more people turned to look at what was going on so Naruto hurried on towards the appointed meeting place.

Sasuke chuckled and followed after the bouncy, blonde boy and glared at the people who frowned at his prey.

Naruto's POV

I hurried on through the city, my mind lingering on what had happened just earlier. I was called onii-chan. Kyah!! That Sasuke had to go and ruin it for me though. That teme! That very very attractive teme... No! I promised Sakura I wouldn't go after him for her sake.

I feel someone tap my shoulder and I whirl around to face annoying Sasuke. He smirks and points towards the street I was supposed to have turned down. My face starts to heat up and I walk briskly back to the street. That was so embarrassing, nyah! I can literally feel his eyes watching me probably with that stupid smirk of his. That sexy sexy smirk...

We arrive at the place we're supposed to meet Kakashi-sensei and Sakura but all we see is an impatient Sakura. When she sees me and Sasuke, she breaks into a smile and approaches us.

"Hey Sasuke," she says, leaning towards him. He looks away with his usual disdain and her pink ears flick in annoyance.

"Thanks for the muffins earlier, Sakura," I say. "They were delicious!" Sasuke nods and Sakura beams brightly. If I wasn't gay, I'd definitely be in love with her.

Sakura continues to try engaging Sasuke in a conversation, but he only gives short replies or grunts. I start to wander over by the gate when I notice Kiba and the rest of his team just outside the gate.

"Hey guys!" I call out to them. They all turn and give me smiles, well, everyone but Hinata, she just turns her head and blushes, her dark ears flattened against her head.

"Hey Naruto," Kiba calls back, beckoning me over to their tight circle. As I approach, they make room for me and I step beside Kiba.

"What are you guys doing out here by the gate?" I ask. "Did you guys happen to get a mission the same time as we did?" Kiba lets out a barking laugh.

"Haven't you heard?" He asks. "Lady Tsunade decided to put both of our teams on this mission." My jaw dropped. What could this mission be if it need two squads of experienced genin?

Sasuke's POV

I watch Naruto disappear around the gate as I give Sakura another grunt. She doesn't get that I don't like her but I don't really want to hurt her feelings. She'd be even more unbearable to work with.

"Sasuke," she says, waving her hand in front of my face. "Are you even listening to me?" She crosses her arms and her tail flicks in annoyance. I give her a piercing glare and her bottom lip begins to quiver. My irritation grows and I turn towards the gate the Naruto had disappeared behind. A moment after I start towards the gate I can hear Sakura's footsteps sound behind me. She's fifteen she should get over this stupid crush soon.

As I turn around the gate I see Naruto standing way to close to the brunette Kiba. Jealousy starts to flood into my veins but what the hell am I jealous for? I stalk angrily up behind Naruto. He turns and smiles radiantly at me.

"We've been put together with Team 8," he says, his tail swishing happily. So irritating. I glare off in the distance but catch him looking a little hurt with my peripheral vision.

"That's great!" Sakura says. "But it makes me wonder what this mission could be..." She trails off and we stand in a heavy silence.

"I'm glad to see we're all here," Kakashi-sensei's voice sounds behind me and I nearly jump out of my skin.

"What is this mission about Kakashi-sensei?" Naruto asks brazenly. "Why do we have two teams of genin?" We wait in silent anticipation as Kakshi keeps us in silence for dramatic affect.

"We've been assigned a B-rank mission."
