You rolled your eyes as you walked back into his apartment.

"I forgot this." You said coldly, picking up your phone and not even looking at Jamie, who was sitting right where you left him.

"Is that the only thing you forgot?" He croaked, his voice low and raspy from all the crying that he had done not even two minutes ago.

"Yup, I'm pretty sure." You said as you walked away from the table. You shoved his door open and left, tears welling up in your eyes. You blinked them back, not feeling in the mood to cry. You were in the mood to punch something. Anything.

As you walked by his apartment, you looked back up at his room and saw him staring at you through his big window in his living room. He began to cry and turned away from the window.

He had called you there to talk about something that had been on his chest for some time. You had noticed that ever since he got back from his road trip about two weeks ago he had been acting strange around you. You just never thought it would be a situation as unlikely and unbelievable as this.

Jamie had cheated on you.

You still couldn't comprehend those words floating through your mind.

Cheated. Even you, being the girlfriend of an NHL player and his team's athletic trainer, have gone to plenty of high-end events at which tons of attractive celebrities have attended and never cheated on Jamie with a single one of them.

Ever since you met him when you started working with the Stars and he had asked you out when working yout first day, you had remained faithful to him. Heck, you even work with Tyler Seguin and that man is fine.

But none compared to Jamie; you were a huge fan of his when he played for the Kelowna Rockets but had quickly forgotten about him with age. So when you got the job and found out he was also part of the Stars, you were ecstatic.

You had been going strong for two years despite the five year age difference. Until he decided to put those two years in jeopardy.

You didn't realize how long you'd been watching Jamie's window and when you finally snapped back to the real world, he was back at his window, looking down at you. He offered a sad smile and you turned on your heel and walked away, not stopping until you reached your own apartment.

It was Wednesday Night Rivalry on NBCSN and you were watching it alone. You and Jamie usually watched it together when he didn't have a game, but after your escapade today in his apartment, he wasn't going to be here.

It was halfway through the first period in the Hawks vs Senators game, and there was a knock at the door.

"It better not fucking be Jamie." You said to yourself, pressing pause on the remote and shuffling to the door. You unlocked it and opened it, a bit disappointed (surprisingly) to find that it was not Jamie. It was your best friend and she had a look of urgency on her face.

She had been your best friend since you were freshmen in high school and put up with all my fangirling over Jamie. So when you and Jamie started dating, she started believing in miracles.

"Hey, what do you need?" You said, opening the door a bit wider to let her come in.

"No time to explain just come with me." she said, grabbing your arm and leading you down the short hallway. You managed to close your door behind you and patted yourself on the back for wearing something comfy yet casual to sit by yourself at home. You didn't look too shabby for a girl who had just broken up with her boyfriend of two years.

"What's happening, (y/f/n)?" You prodded as the two of you stood in the elevator that was heading to the lobby. She stayed silent the entire way down and on the short trip to the pool area. You had only been down there twice but you knew for sure that it wasn't supposed to be decorated like this at night. White lights hung from every cabana and little, golden lights were strewn all over every plant.

The only person that understood your appreciation for year-round Christmas light decor was Jamie.

And there he was, standing under a cabana, with a smug look on his face. (y/f/n) lead you over to him and then left. It was just you and Jamie now.

You dreaded the lecture about how he shouldn't have cheated and all the reasons why he loved you and would never do it again and the puppy-dog look that accompanied his plea for you to take him back.

But what he said surprised you.

"I love you." He said, a small smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.

"That's it?" You scoffed. "No long speech about how cheating was wrong? No begging on your knees for me to take you back?" Your eyebrows shot up in surprise.

"I know how much you hate lectures." Jamie shrugged his shoulders. So, you slapped him. Hard.

"That was for cheating on me." You said. As he was recovering from your slap, he opened his mouth to say something but you cut him off by grabbing his face and pulling his lips to yours.

You kissed him with everything you had left in you, for those seven hours that you had to go through without hearing his voice or seeing his face.

"And that, was for making me miss you so much for seven freaking hours. You made me sit through half a period of Wendesday Night Rivalry alone—and the whole time I was thinking about you. Missing you. I just couldn't stay mad at you. And you know how long I can hold a grudge." You panted, still out of breath from the kiss.

"I knew you wouldn't be able to stay mad at me for long." Jamie said, a smile spreading across his face.

"I hate you." You said, not able to contain your smile.

"No, you don't." He put one hand in his pocket. "You just didn't know what else to say instead of, 'I forgive you,' and 'I love you,'. Besides, if you really did hate me—oh, your shoe's untied..." Jamie pointed to your bare feet. And of course, you fell for the trick, and by the time you looked back up, Jamie was about a foot shorter than you.

"—you wouldn't say yes." Jamie smiled up at you. You then realized that he was on one knee, holding an open, black velvet box with a ring inside. You tried to say something but you weren't able because of the lump in your throat.

"I'll explain. Like I said before, I love you. And I honestly don't even know what was going through my head when I cheated on you. You're the only woman that has ever tugged on my heart strings and will continue to tug on them. This ring is a promise of that to you. I love you, (y/n), and I want you to marry me." Jamie said, smiling up at you with his huge, doe, brown eyes.

He was right: if you truly had hated him, you wouldn't have said yes.
