valerie

"you're crazy."

"no im not." I mumbled, already not believing my own lies.

"you need help, valeri-" she spoke, keeping her eyes on the road. her hand lightly gripped the stirring wheel, making slight left and rights.

"don't call me that. I told you before not to call me that." I said in a monotone.

"val, you don't understand, this isn't healthy. you're not safe to be around anymore."

"you're fault for giving birth to a freak bitch. I could've committed instead of deali-"

"ENOUGH. you're better than this. you just need help." the car kept quiet, the sound of wind being the only sound besides the radio. this can't be real. how did I allow it to get this bad. this deep. usually I could go to sleep and fix my problems but there's no way I could do that not. it's not like I can fight my way out, how could I even fight my way out?

"so how long am I gonna be here?" I broke the half silence.

"until you're sane. that could be in months, years, could be never."

"im not that crazy mother."

"valerie. you're still in love with him. you don't need to want this, you need it."

the car began to slow down, enhancing the full idea of what was happening.

"get out the car valerie."

I groan before stretching my legs out, stepping out the car. I quickly studied the place, grey brick and more welcoming than needed. the glass doors were covered with locks upon locks; who would want freaks walking in and out anyways. I came across the rug infront of the fake plants, and decided to slowly read that before anything else. 'greenburger mental institution.'

"im not doing this." I say plainly yet seriously. she turns towards me grabs my hand.

"I just want you to get better baby. please."

"mom im fucking fine I swear I know when to contro-"

"valerie you're-

"stop FUCKING calling me that." I yell, instantly grabbing securities attention. in the blink of an eye, two men were on me, grabbing me and tossing me into the grey building.

"you must be the newbie." the tall security guard spoke, slightly chuckling at it.

"you must be the annoying fatass who I already hate." I mumbled. my feet continued to be rubbed against the tiled floor until we reached a wooden wide door. the non-speaking guard knocked three times before walking in with me now in his arm.

I jerk my arms away as they drop me and let me into the room, quickly locking the door. I stand infront of a white women, who seemed around 43 and quite friendly.

"you're valerie, aren't you?" she almost smiles, pulling the glasses down from her face.

"yes. but don't call me that. call me v or val."

"okay, val. do you know where you are?"  she questions, folding her hands and placing them on top of the piles of papers.

"how couldn't I realize I was in a mental institution, you could smell death from miles away." I say, placing myself down in a chair next to the desk she sat at.

"you'll get used to it. what's your problem?" she fixed herself, positioning her body towards me.

"I don't have a probl-"

"so you have a tendency to lie already, that's one. what's the first?"

"I am hopelessly in love with my boyfriend."

"that's no proble-" I quickly cut her off, finishing my sentence.

"he's been dead for almost a year and I can sometimes see him where he died." the room kept quiet. the women who was probably lost for words cleared her throat, and started to look through papers.

"oh, youll get along with two people here already."

"really now mrs? will I?" I jokingly say. she almost smirks, and pulls her glasses up.

"oh yes. now, stand back up and carry on to your new room. welcome."

"and what? you sound like this is a fun hotel. I know im crazy."

"goodbye val. say your goodbyes to your mother, and once again, I hope we can fix you by the end of your stay."

"I hope you can too."
