I quickly do my hair and get dressed. Was this a mistake? Maybe I shouldn't have answered him. But I barely spoke to him for two months. I think he's suffered enough. Right? Dayna is going to be so mad at me.
In exactly 15 minutes he's at my house.
What is it with rich people and punctuality?
Someone knocks at the door. I hesitate. What if Devlin followed him here again? What if she knows he's here? He knocks again. Devlin Isn't the boss of me. I can have whoever I want over as a guest. I say this, I only wished I believed this.
"Hi." I open the door.
"Hi, Ava." He hugs me. His hug is tight and firm and a bit long. There's that scent again. That cologne he wears so often that it can be portrayed as his natural scent.
He lets go and looks at my stomach.
"Wow, look at you. It's been so long. One more month left huh." He says.
"Are you excited?"
"If by excited you mean terrified then yes," I say. I've had eight months to prepare and I'm still not ready. I don't even have a nursery. The baby has to share a room with me until I can afford to buy a bigger place.
He pulls the cake from his bag and places it on the table. He then pulls out a container full of fresh strawberries.
My mouth waters. This is the whole reason I forgave him. I've been craving this for a while now.
We eat and talk. It's nice hanging out with him. I missed it. Probably more than he did. But with every word and every joke he makes, my heart aches. Because I long for him, but I can't have him.
"So how are the wedding preparations going?" I ask. I don't know why I do. Maybe I hope he'd tell me it's over or it has been pushed back.
"It's going," he says. He doesn't sound too happy about it.
"What's wrong?" I ask him.
"I told Devlin I didn't want to take over the company and she got angry. She doesn't think I should just hand it over to my brother. I think she wants us to be some kind of power couple or something." He rubs his head. He looks stressed. I don't understand him. If she stresses him out so much, why marry her? I want to ask him, but I decide that maybe I shouldn't go down that road.
"What are you going to do?" I ask him.
"I'm going to have to take over the company. That's what she wants. That's what my father wants. And it's something I'm good at."
"But it is not something you're passionate about. You're going to regret it. I promise you that."
"This whole baby thing is making her go crazy," he says. "For the past two months, she's been making us have sex every day, at least, four times a day. She desperately wants to get pregnant. I'm exhausted."

This information makes me uncomfortable. I really didn't need to know about his sex life.
He continues. " It doesn't even feel like sex anymore. I just feel used. As soon as I come, the moment is finished and she does these exercises she read online that are supposed to increase pregnancy."
"You do not that sounds crazy right? Devlin is insane."
He doesn't comment so I decide maybe another topic is best. I talk about a pregnancy book I read and his whole demeanour changes. This baby is the only thing that seems to make him happy. This must be why Devlin is so jealous. I can give him something she can't. I find pleasure in knowing this. The fact that I intimidate her makes her less intimidating to me. Suddenly I understand Devlin and the reasons she is the way she is. She is still evil. But putting myself in her shoes, I understand her envy and jealousy. And for a split moment, I kind of feel sorry for her.

Dayna comes bursting through the door, Her eyes fixated on Noah. "Ava, what is he doing here?"
I freeze. "How was your date?" I try to change topics.
She looks angry. "I can't believe you! When I saw his car outside, I thought no way. No way did Ava let him in the house. Maybe he was here outside the door pleading to come in but you were saying no. Clearly, I was wrong."

Noah stands up. He looks upset. "Ava is carrying my child, If I want to see her, I have the right to".
"No you don't," She says. "Ava doesn't want you here."
"She clearly does, seeing how she let me in."
"She only did that to be nice." She looks at the table. "Or probably because you brought her cheesecake. For cheesecake, she'd give her child away."
"Hey!" I say.
"Ava, you know in just joking. I'm trying to make a point."
They start to bicker and suddenly I don't feel right.
"Guys.." I say but they don't hear me.
"Why wouldn't she want me here anyways? Maybe because you've been putting ideas in her head!" Noah says.
"Guys..." I say again, but they are arguing so loud that they don't hear me.
"Maybe because you're no good for her. All you do is get her into trouble!" Dayna says.
"How do I get her into trouble?" He asks.
"What don't you ask your wife?" She says.
I feel water dripping down my leg. "Guys please," I try to say louder. Still nothing.
"What's that supposed to mean?" He asks in confusion.
"You're bitch of a wife threatened Ava!"
"She what?" He says. He's calmer now.
"Ow, guys."
They look at me. Then at the floor. Dayna gasps.
Their looks are scaring me. "What?" I ask.
"Ava, your water broke."
