Chiaki's POV:

"Aki let's go... It's time for us to work..."

I didn't realize I was daydreaming again until my bestfriend Yukina called my attention... Here goes everything. Another day to strugle and survive...

"Are you alright? You don't seem to be your usual self today," she asked.

"Not really. I'm just wondering why I got into our profession in the first place," I answered.

"Oh, is that it? I believe it's to help your family, right? You want them to have a better life," she finally said.

"Yes, it's certainly my main goal. But does it begin and end there? It's funny, isn't it? I hate men, yet here I am 'entertaining' them," I answered, smiling bitterly as I did so.

What's gotten into me? Since when did I become so concerned about my reasons for wanting to become a geiko*? I suppose everyone eventually questions their purpose for existing sooner or later.

"You don't really hate men in general, Aki. You despise men who remind you of your father," she said quite straightforwardly. Blurting out things like this is not Yukina's usual style.
I knew I deserved the much needed dose of reality, though.

"What a peculiar pair are we right, Yuki-chan? You swore never to fall for a man in any way, while I vowed never to become emotionally involved with them." Talk about being man-haters in different ways. "We carry our past around like a heavy load on our shoulders," I finished.

"Indeed, you're right Aki-chan. But the past is the past. Though I will never forget it, I won't let it drag me down. What matters now is our present and future," she wisely mentioned. "We've no choice but to keep moving forward and take each day at a time."

What timely choice of words. We abhor men, because of different reasons, but we cannot survive without them, either. No matter, we can't let our lives revolve solely around them.

"Yuki, let's stop dwelling on this subject, shall we please?" The topic depresses me a lot and I bet it doesn't help to lighten her mood either...

"That's a good idea, Aki. Putting that aside, may I ask you for a favor? Could you watch me practice dancing? I'd like to know what I need to improve on."

Sure, I'll gladly do it for her. Anytime. I'm just wondering why she is suddenly working extra hard.

"Certainly. May I just ask why you're so into practicing all of a sudden?" I'm dying to know.

"Oh, is that it? I'll dancing for the men whom we'll be entertaining at a daimyo's victory party," she supplied.

What a good news... I've always known how talented Yuki is. It's a good thing she's already being recognized for it.

"Really? I'm so happy for you," I said, giving her a bear hug at the same time. "But aren't you nervous?"

"It is. And I'm very nervous. But I'm praying everything will turn out right," she finished.

I also hope it does. Our success as would-be geikos are riding on our abilities to charm men. Now, all I need is to learn how to view most men in a different light.

"Aki, I was just wondering. Is it possible for people like us to truly fall in love? " Yuki absently asked. "I know, I vowed never to fall for a man, but there are times I feel like I want to experience it."

Hmmn... A good thought to ponder on. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? Often, it is best to be prepared for what life may throw at us.

Challenges? Trials? Hardships? Bring them all on. One things certain, though. This girl will not be getting herself seriously involved with men anytime soon.

(A/N: Wooh! Another chapter typed and up for publishing. Good job me! *Who said this? 😜* KnB fans I know you know it XD

When the man-hater appears, how will things fare?

Comments, suggestions, and constructive criticisms are very much welcomed and appreciated. So if you want to be friends with one as weird as I am, I'll be very glad. 😉

Hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I had fun making it. Have a nice day minna-san and God bless us all...)
