Chapter 8

I was practically running to reach my next class. I could already see the door in view when I suddenly tripped. I landed on my knees and and caught myself with my hands so that my face couldn't come in contact with the ground. Ouch. I'm definitely going to have a bruise or two. Just then I heard laughing near me. Annoyed, I got up and looked at the source from where the laughing had erupted.

Carmen. She was standing there with a smirk plastered onto her plastic looking face. I wanted to reach out and slap it right off of her. She had a little posse of two other girls laughing at me as well.

"Oops, sorry I didn't see you. Maybe because you're a nobody." She snickered along with tweedle dumb and tweedle dumber.

"Or maybe you didn't see me due to the lack of flexibility your face has after all that surgery." I replied with a sarcastic tone and a little smile. Bitch.

That made them stop laughing. She glared at me. I could literally feel her eyes burning into my soul. She rolled her eyes and her best comeback was an annoyed "Whatever."

I rolled my eyes in return and started walking to Mrs. Jackson's class. Just as the bell rang I had stepped foot into class. I thought I heard Carmen yell something but I didn't hear her over the bell.

"Have a seat Miss DeLuna." Mrs. Jackson said pointing to my seat. Thankfully the seat I had yesterday next to Lizzie and Devon was empty. I quickly made my way to it and took a seat. I sighed putting my book bag down on the ground before turning my gaze to smile at Lizzie and Devon.

"What's wrong?" Lizzie whispered looking concerned. I guess I was still annoyed at the whole incident that happened in the hallway.

"I'll tell you guys at lunch." I whispered back giving her a little smile. She nodded in response.

After choir I felt a lot better. Singing always makes my day. I smiled at some people in the hall as I made my way to my homeroom.

When I spotted Devon I went and sat next to him.

"Hey." He said with a small smile.

"Hey, what's up?" I said smiling back.

"The sky obviously." He said with a chuckle.

"Oh nice one. Did you come up with that one on your own?" I couldn't help but laugh.

During the entire 30 minutes we had in homeroom, Devon and I talked about the classes we had and how we liked our teachers so much. Note the sarcasm.

When the bell rang we made our way to the cafeteria to grab some lunch.

"Melody!!!!" I was suddenly attacked by an extremely enthusiastic Lizzie.

I looked at her for a second before I started grinning from ear to ear. "How are you always so happy? ESPECIALLY in school?"

"I get to see you guys! That's how." She poked my side making me laugh. "Now come on I'm starving!"

Once we got out of line and took a seat at our table, I couldn't help but wonder where Carter was...

"So tell us... What happened?" Lizzie asked making her and Devon both look at me with determination written all over their faces.

"Carmen's what happened." I said sighing, feeling a bit guilty at the insult I threw at her earlier. I know I had a right to defend myself after what she had done to me, but I still sort of felt bad after it all happened. Ugh! I'm way to sentimental.

"What did Carmen do?" I was surprised to hear Carter's voice in my ear. I jumped a bit, looking at him with my brows furrowed.

"Nothing."
