"I love it!" I say with natural enthusiasm. And I do--from this angle. I haven't explored around yet, but still.
"I was thinking we could go out and celebrate tonight. This is a milestone in our relationship, you know, moving in together."
Tonight? I couldn't exactly let Cam down but I've had plans for tonight for five days now. Men these days are so complicated.. Time to improvise!
"Why tonight? Having dates at tonight is so cliche, everyone does it . . ."
"But--"
"We should celebrate in the afternoon!"
"It is the afternoon . . ."
"Then we'll have it now! Thank goodness too because going out in the evenings makes me lazy."
"Alex--"
"And we're already dressed! Let's go to a buffet!"
"We aren't going to a buffet Alex," Cam says. I'm pushing him and he won't budge--this is frustrating. I sigh and lean back. With a hot, exhausted breath I blow the hair out my hair and narrow my eyes at Cam.
"Why can't we go to a buffet?"
"Because there's a new circus that's opened in town and--"
Uh oh, not another circus. Cam loves circuses and like I said, the last time we went was not a joyful experience for me.
"Oh no," I say shaking my head stubbornly, "We are not. I repeat, not going to the circus."
Cam widens his eyes and forces the corner of his lips down. He looks like an adorable little kid and he knows I can't resist that face. I have an urge to give in but then the memory of the little chimpanzee on my back resurfaces and I put my foot down,
"Absolutely not."
35 minutes later
"Welcome to Cirque du L'Experience!" the loud announcer says through his megaphone. There's a loud roar through the stands the light flash on the stage for a better view.
"Thanks for coming with me, Alex. I know how much you hate circuses so it means a lot to me that--" Cam begins to say.
"Shut up," I interrupt while slowly slipping down in my seat. He's right, I hate circuses. I despise them along with all the performers. I don't know but circuses seem to scare me and creep me out. This circus in particular gives me bad vibes.
"To start out our first performance, our most beloved magician, Joel Kort!" the announcer shouts as he backs up and the curtains open. From the other side of the stage a billboard drops with a enlarged picture of a man's picture. He looks more a pirate than a magician. He's wearing a black eye patch over one eye and his mustache looks curled and fake.
"I love this magician! He's fantastic! " Cam says. He reminds me of an overactive six year old who just got a sticker for a good well done.
I look back at the stage just in time to see Joel the Magician poof onto the stage. He drapes his cape over him as if he's imitating Dracula and circles the stage. He smiles with a grin that seems creepy to me and walks back to the front of the stage.
"Ladies and Gentlemen!" he shouts with an Italian accent, "I am the Joel the Great and for my act tonight I will need two volunteers from the crowd. Anyone?"
Next to me, Cam shoots his arm up and begins waving it back and forth.
"What are you doing?" I ask in horror.
"I'm volunteering!"
Suddenly, the stage lights averts to Cam and I. The light is blinding so I put my hands over my eyes and squint to see.
"You two! Come on up!" the magician commands. Before I can acknowledge what's happening, Cam grabs my hands and darts down the stage steps with me. The audience is clapping with enthusiasm when we reach the stage. God, that's a lot of people.
"And my trusty assistant, Buddy the Clown!" Joel directs his arms to the side of my me and a white cloud appears, bringing a clown. My eyes widened abnormally. If there was another thing I couldn't stand more than monkeys at a circus was a clown. Frightened, I shifted near Cam whilst still staring suspiciously at the clown.
"Young man, I'll have to step near the rope while Buddy, you escort the girl--" the clown reaches out to touch me and I jerk my hand back.
The audience lets out a small chuckle and Buddy makes another attempt. This time I take a large step back.
"Please, young woman, he will not hurt you." Joel says trying to keep me still. The clown makes another move and I run across the stage. The crowd bursts into laughter as I frantically look back to make sure the clown is far from me. Oh my god, he's following me! I increase my speed and hop off the stage.
My breath is short and quick as I sprint away from the clown. "Get away from me, you freak," I shrill as I look back at the jogging clown. He has a gigantic grin on his face and he's waving at the laughing audience. My foot gets tangled in a cord and I come crashing down.
"I think we'll pass on the act," Cam says suddenly kneeling next to me. He picks me up and leads me out the circus door.
The ride home is completely silent and I refuse to talk to Cam--which is why I'm sitting in the back of the car alone. That was the most humiliating night of my life and I'll never be able to live it down.
"Alex, I said I'm sorry. We have to talk sooner or later."
I only respond with a sniffle. For all I know this is Cam's fault--he knows how I feel about circuses and yet he insists on bringing me there. I mean, I know he hates plays but I don't drag him there causing his utter humiliation.
I look down at my watch as Cam pulls into the driveway. In thirty minutes I'm due at Keith's. This is looking like a long night.
Alright, so don't criticize Alex for her fear of clowns--I'm terrified of them too O_O. Anyways I apologize for this long wait but as I said, school's in again and I'm focused on my grades so my writing won't be as frequent. Also, I have this whole Pokemon obsession going on now, am I alone in this? :D I'll upload after 25 votes, or 10 comments, OR Friday-Sunday--whichever is first :D
