Back to life

Jacks funeral had been organized as a private event. It was that way for a few reasons but the main one was that he was largely disliked by the Mewnian population. Not many knew that he was the one who had saved them. Star had withdrawn from the outside world, locking herself in her room. The only contact she made was with the servants who brought her food. Her friends and family worried about her, she was wasting away. Well, everyone except Marco. He didn't know how to feel about her predicament. On one hand he felt bad because he had cut her out of his life when she had needed him most but on the other hand he was still mad about the night he had smashed her mirror. Ambrosia and Mrs Diaz had tried to talk to him about it but every time they mentioned it he stopped talking and ignored them for a while. A day before the funeral Star emerged from her room a mess. Her eyes were red from crying and she looked like a mess. Later on in the day someone came forwards claiming that they had seen Jack at the bounce lounge with a girl but it was dismissed as his body was still in its coffin. For the first time since Jack died Star ate dinner with them. Like all of the other nights it was silent and a bit depressing, until Cassandra spoke.

"What the hell are we doing guys?" she asked.

"What do you mean?" Ambrosia replied.

"I mean why are we sitting around and acting depressed? This is not what Jack would have wanted." Star slammed her fist against the table.

"HOW WOULD YOU KNOW WHAT HE WOULD HAVE WANTED!?!?!? YOU BARELY KNEW HIM!!!"

"So? I knew him well enough to trust him with my life and know that he wouldn't want us to be so glum. He'd want us to celebrate his life rather than ruin our own."

"IF YOU KEEP TALKING I WILL BLAST YOU!!!"

"I'll keep talking anyways. If he were here he'd be on my side."

"WELL HE'S NOT HERE CASSANDRA!!! HE'S DEAD BECAUSE OF ME!!!"

"He made his choice. He saved Marco at the cost of his life."

"THAT'S IT!!!" Star raised her wand and fired a narwhal at her. The next few moments seemed to be in slow motion. There was a flash from under the table and a beam of light seemingly raced the narwhal down the table. It got there first and when the narwhal reached the beam it disappeared. Moon reached under the table and pulled out Jacks wand. The crystal was glowing but after a few seconds it went dark.

"What the hell was that?" Ambrosia asked.

"I have no idea." Moon replied. After that incident Jacks wand didn't react anymore. The crystal at the top never started glowing again. Because of that they placed it in the coffin with Jack.

(Day of the funeral)

It was an overcast day as the group made their way out. Ambrosia, Cassandra and Star carried Jacks coffin to the royal graveyard. The only other people there were Mrs Diaz, Moon and River. They placed the coffin on the ground next to the hole. They stood in silence for a while. None of them really wanting to talk. Eventually Star decided she would. She walked behind the coffin and cleared her throat.

"I remember the adventures me and Jack used to have. When we were little I ran around being crazy like I usually was and he'd run right after me, playing with me but at the same time watching over me. He made sure that I was happy even when he wasn't. Back on Earth people said that you never realise what you have until it's gone. I guess that's how I feel now. Growing up I never realised what he did for me. That he kept me safe but also gave me space to grow. Recently I learned that growing up he wasn't as happy as I thought he was. People bullied him and called him names because he was a Frost but he never told me because he knew that it would make me sad. No matter what he always stood by me, even though I didn't always stand by him. Now I...I k...kn..." Star broke into tears. "I...I can't do this." Moon rushed over and embraced her.
