"Xav, I know you're lying." Pointing to the cigarette, I mention, "you smoke when you're stress."
"You saw me smoking earlier." He says.
"Yeah, I did. But then you suddenly left the group, so you can smoke in private. You only do that when something happened." I point out. Now, I stand in front of him with a concern look. "Xavier, what's wrong?"
Sighing, he flicks the cigarette away. "Archie left."
"He went back to the UK?" I ask. Xavier told me the story of Archie. How he ran away from his abusive, homophobic parents. How he saved up all his money to fly here in the mainland. How he and Xavier met.
"No, no. He left with his aunt and uncle. He has relatives here, which he didn't know. Apparently, they found out that he was here and wanted him to be with them."
Oh.
"So he left yesterday and won't be coming back until next week. That means I won't be going to prom tonight." He sighs with a shake of the head. We were both silent. Listening to the sound of the wind, seeing some students walk in different directions. A thought pops in my mind.
"Why don't you come with Nolan and I?"
"I don't think Noel wants another guy with his boyfriend during prom. Besides, Noel and I aren't in a good term still."
"Just think about it, please." I plead. I want him to come. I want all of us to be there to make the night a remembrance. "I'll talk to Nolan if that helps." I add on, giving him a small smile.
Huffs, he walks away, back to our friends, before giving me a simple nod and a smile.

"Babe, you can't be serious." Nolan argues. Once school ended, Nolan waits as I finish some last touch-up with events that's coming up. As we got in his car, I told him about Xavier coming with us to prom since Archie is not here. Mentioning Xavier and prom in the same sentence, Nolan goes crazy with anger. "You want someone to be with us during our night."
"Baby, Xavier is our friend. He can't miss out on his last prom; he'll regret it." I counter his argument, putting in a hint of pleading.
"He can go with Marcus, Paul or Christian." He brings another argument.
"Marcus is bringing some girl from another school. Paul is going with this girl from his class, which by the way, he won't mention her name to me. And Christian will most likely sweep off any stag ladies tonight, leaving Xavier by himself with no friends to be with."
Nolan remains silent for awhile. As I glance over, I see his jaw tighten, his hands whitening from his grip on the steering wheel. Putting my hand on his knee, I tell him,
"If this is about old history, Noel – it's history. I'm in love with you. I don't want anyone else. Xavier is with Archie, so there's no reason to be jealous or angry." Seeing that we stop on a red light, I grab onto his chin, softly forcing him to look directly at me. "Nolan Phillips, you're the love of my life. The man of my dreams. In the future, I see us together – partners –with our kids, living in a nice neighborhood. We could even have a dog or two." Nolan chuckles, making me smile. "The point is that there's nobody like you. There's only one guy on this earth that I want and that guy is you."
